Re: 72 k20 project
Thanks!
did some things tonight. Studs turned in for the pan. bolted up. first pic of a fabricated aluminum pan on a 12 valve cummins i have been able to find. i looked, but not real hard. Dang! everything clears just so. still have to check the real big one. i will install the tie rod soon to check fit there. pretty sure i will need to replace one stud with a button head. Re: 72 k20 project
Thanks my friend!
i laid out and drilled the holes for the rest of the winch mount. i can do the rest of the cutting for the fairlead easier with the bumper on the ground. i need to make a couple of pass through's for wiring and the bumper will be read for a PC. i just need to figure out what color. not sure i chronicled the A1000 mount. i have a couple things to add for a pre-filter mount, but this is how it sits. no air in the bags Ryan had mentioned having an isolator mount for the pump. seemed like a good idea to me, so i oversized the mounting holes and used the correct sized grommet. |

Re: 72 k20 project
Nice work. The isolators should help it be a little more quiet too. Not that they're horrible, but at least you gave it some vibration protection.

quiet... i think i am going to give up on that. i will do my best to make this rig quiet, but i think the cummins clatter will make enough noise to drown anything else out. i still have to figure out what kind of deadening i want to do for the cab. |

I'm sure it's in here somewhere, but what are you using for your oil filter head?

Re: 72 k20 project
The original filter heads have a by pass valve in them as well as a pressure regulator, your remote unit only has a pressure regulator in it, will your remote heads use a by pass valve?
I couldn't bring my self to leave it out as it was used in the original system.

i haven't made up my mine on wheels yet. i am generally not a fan of polished/chrome but on this truck i think it would look good. i have mostly been looking at black or black/machined wheels. ideal choice is probably BMF Novakane wheel in 18x9 with a 35 inch(or metric equivalent) tire. leaning towards toyo MTs or cooper sts. i suppose it depends on my mood the day i buy them. there are a few other tires i have looked at as well. so i cant say as i know for sure what i am doing. i am also looking at other wheel options and there are a few that i like, but forget what they are. the high school side screams for mud tires. the grown up side tells me to be sensible and get a tire that wont suck in the snow and will actually last for a little while. i love the cooper STS and have run them on my DD trucks for years. they last much better than most mud tires i have owned, but i never have had them on a diesel. |

Re: 72 k20 project
this little box showed up.
Fancy! fuel lines need some love, but i wanted to see how big of a pain it was going to be. seems like it will be ok. i need to order some bends and get on it! so, i finally stuck a flange on the fabbed elbow. i can clear 5" all the way. i will trim a gore off the ell since i don't need all the angle. add another thing to the list, now i have exhaust to look into... |

Re: 72 k20 project
I like those wheels.
A local guy has them on a super duty.Good looking wheel. And Toyo's have been good to me.Looking into a set for my truck. Hopefully the body work nonsense works out smooth.I'am just getting into that dobacle. That exhaust elbow reminds me of a cone pipe exhaust on a dirtbike.Me likey.

elbow is kind of cool. i build big versions of those alot for work. itll get burried in heat wrap, and be invisible when it is done. another fun detail burried. haha i fiddled around and made some good noises for the neighbors. still cooking up an idea for lic. plate mounting. i have a few kicking around, but i need to talk to my buddies at the Marshals office about the possibilities and what level of attention they may garner i also odered these new lower pin/caps for the D60 a while back. the originals looked like they had water contaminated grease in them for a while before the new stuff went in. just enough to give me the twitch though. then i remembered i needed a yoke for the 60, so i ordered it the other day. the OEM application was a 1330. nope. replacement is 1350. gives the new seal a BFN surface to ride on too. cant hurt. |

Re: 72 k20 project
Ryan, would one of those spring loaded license plate frames work if you let the plate be pulled down and locked in place to access the winch? Or cut your bumper on the RH side and recess a rectangel in it and put your plate off to the side maybe centered in the RH portion of the bumper? Nice work on the winch hole, and it's nice to see parts rolling in. Each piece brings it that much closer.

Re: 72 k20 project
Going off of what Dieselwrencher suggested, use a hinge at the bottom(not spring loaded) and mount it to the lower two holes and on the top two holes use a pair of rare earth magnets to keep it up right during normal use. When the need to use the winch, simply pull down on the plate and let gravity do the rest.
