Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Busy night in the garage.
I had some help and we got the bed sides cut out for the wheel and UCA clearance and got the bed mounted. I did not anticipate removing so much material. The bedsides clear the tires now but just barely. I will probably take out a bit more to have some clearance. I will also have to remove some of the fender flange. |

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
That's the best part when you bolt parts back on after bagging it. I remember doing the same thing with my 48. You spend so much time visualizing how it will/might look, that when you finally see it you keep looking to make sure your not dreaming it....ha ha

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Not much photo worthy to report. Getting everything wired up. Battery will be in an old Hamm's cooler in the box. Running battery cables, etc.
Relays for my compressors are under the seat with my stereo stuff. Chasing some leaks in the air system. So far I have a couple in the fittings in the air tank, |

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Leaks on your tank system are not good. Good luck! I have one on my drivers rear I can not find, no bubbles anywhere.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
The leak is between a couple fittings so I think there is hope. Tank openings are 1/2". I have a 1/2" Galvanized Street 45 degree fitting, then a 1/2" to 3/8" threaded reducer. The compressor leader hose threads into the reducer. I have a leak between the threaded reducer and the 45 degree fitting.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
I have owned a lot of bagged trucks, chasing slow leaks, like when the tank goes empty overnight for example, is a good way to go insane. I started using an engine driven compressor so empty or full, I can leave in about 5 seconds. on a couple with electric compressors I just put a large ball valve on the tank and turn it off when I get out.
the rule of leaks is: once you have a leak you have an air ride system, and vice versa. keeps me sane!

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
A couple points to mention is it is critical that your air line is trimmed straight. The slightest angle can cause a leak.
Also when you insert your plastic air line into the fitting, push it in and the try to pull it toward you a couple times. This helps to seat the line. Tracing the system with a spray bottle full of soapy water helps to pin point trouble leaks. I'm sure that I'm not telling you anything new just thought I would mention it as that helped a lot with leaks I had in my air system. Looking great man... Marc

Good points here guys as I am only on my second bagged truck. My first one had leaks at the fitting on the valve block.

WE HAVE PRESSURE!!
Fired up the compressors tonight. Quieter than I had thought they would be. Hit 140 PSI in about 2 min roughly. |

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
On my 49hardtimes (sold) I'd be lucky to get 2 days without loosing air throughout everything. I had some older viairs on there and wouldn't yah know I replaced the leader hoses with check valves. Thing filled up way faster and also little to no leaks for two straight weeks!!! So if you start noticing you are taking longer to fill up or pop fuses for your comps or have leaks, replace those leader hoses!

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
So far I just have a couple leaks between the compressors and the tank. I think if I raise the tank up a bit I can eliminate a fitting which will help.
Hopping to drop him down tonight off the jacks stands and see if I have any leaks between the switches and the bags. |
