I think I like the wheels. Will they have hub caps?

Re: SkinnyG's '61 Apache

I altered the photograph to best match what I actually see in person.

I "think" I like the wheels too. Maybe not 100%, but this is what it's going to be for a while.

I'm thinking chrome Spider Caps.

Re: SkinnyG's '61 Apache

Grill supports got painted in semi-gloss polyurethane, and the grill got properly mounted with 3/16" aluminum rivets and rivet washers.

Bumper also got mounted with stainless carriage bolts I had blasted and shot in polyurethane back when I did the steering wheel.

Not shown, I have door seals installed. Working on wiper motor mounting.

Prepping the vent windows. Waiting on glass setting tape to come in:

Re: SkinnyG's '61 Apache

Installing the glass reminds me of how crappy the factory parts are, how crappy aftermarket parts are, how fragile paint is, how ham-fisted I am when assembling this truck, and how much less I'm caring about perfection as I complete every task. *sigh*

Also, I disassembled the Jeep Cherokee front door stoppers and removed the rubber bush. I'm pleased with how wide the door swings, and do not believe there will be any crease-happy contact happening.

The windows look great but your experience installing them scares me. I am ready ro install my door glass and I'm not looking forward to it. If mine come out as good as yours seem to be I'll be happy.

Re: SkinnyG's '61 Apache

The back glass was easy peasy.

The front glass was an experience. I foolishly followed the only "official supplier" made 60-63 c10 windshield youtube video. I should have searched "curved windshield" instead, and watched a slew of those. I -DO- have a trio of videos coming out (one starting Saturday) which go through the glass installs. With the windshield, biggest tip: you are gently "persuading" the glass in. Be freaking gentle. Windshield video is coming out Jan 14th. Door glass video Jan 21. I will post all of them here.

When you do the door felts - squeeze the curved ends flat in a vice and cut off the felt, where the door felts need to squeeze behind the door channel. That's how the factory did it.

Thanks for the info on the door felts. I am using the original windshield and rear glass so I left that to a professional. Would you mind telling me who you got your felts from?

Re: SkinnyG's '61 Apache

That is an awesome video. I have done a front window on my 1969 c10, that was a pain in the you know what, but I got it. Having the right tools, ya so worth it!! Nice job, love the truck.
Question though. You mentioned glass installation tape? What is that?

Re: SkinnyG's '61 Apache

Glass Setting Tape is a roll of sticky/gooey? rubber-ish tape that fits between the glass and the frame (a'la vent windows) so the glass is cushionly "pinched" to stay in the frame.

They come in thicknesses - measure the gap, measure the glass, math, order.

25' roll did both my doors with a couple mistakes (door glass is fully framed, too).

Re: SkinnyG's '61 Apache

Squish and shave the door felts like this. This is how the factory did it:

I had previously made a fancy speaker holder that would angle a pair of 5-1/4" coax to hopefully improve the soundstage from a center-mount speaker. Sadly, it did not clear the heater controls, or the modifications I did to the ashtray to house the air ride gauges. Grrr. So.... flat panel it is.

I had also added 6 more rows to fit the speakers better than the single opening was:
