That's what I was thinking. You've come so far with your build and done so many cool mods. Why let a small detail like that stop you. Haha

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

So I asked member ironcainine and he had some decals made at his local decal shop for my transmission temp gauge that matches the color of the gauges and now it looks so much better. I'll have to get new "TRANS" decal as these ones came pretty much transparent for some reasons. Here's a before and after of the gauge color.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

The cruise control unit is nos gm correct for the year. If your talking about the piece directly in front of it , that unit is what I'm using to control the overdrive. Turns it on and off at certain speeds. It is a th400 1972 only emission part for manual transmission just used for the overdrive instead.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

Gotcha. What about the 90 degree fitting coming off the other drive, was that with the kit or is part of of the overdrive control?

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

No that is just a era Stewart Warner 90 degreeadapter. In 67 68 chevy had the speedometer cables run at 90 degree angles on the cruise units for some reason so I added the adapter because there was no way I could run the cable the other way once I added the cold air ducts. It keeps them away from the exhaust manifolds as well.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

Well I figured since finding nos hoses for this pre cleaner set up will be next to impossible I figured I'd try using the hosesgm used in 75 76 before going to molded plastic. They are flexible rubber with a spring in it and a clamp on each end. I happen led to find 2 the exact sizes I needed and look completely stock! Just clean them up at the end and they are good to go.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

I got my longer lower speedometer cable today and routed it. Underneath they alway just kind of hun from the firewall to the transmission and with the overdrive it was a long wY so I added a grommet to the piece where the gv overdrive sensor used to be so the cable will be nice and snug

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

So I did some playing around with the cowl intake system. Instead of using the speedometer switch at the cruise control unit for the overdrive I decided to use the switch at the transmission gear to operate that. I decided to use the switch under the hood to operate the door that let's in the air from the cowl.i was worried about having fuel smell in the cab when I run my ac so I made it so the door will let the cowl fresh air in at 30 mph and shut it at 25mph using a vacuum pod and a energized solenoid. The speed sensor grounds the solenoid at 30mph and opens it to let the vacuum to the pod to open the door. Door has a spring and stays closed all the time except over 30mph so fumes can't travel into the cowl area. Basically i turned the tcs system from 1972 into a way to operate the fresh air door. Cowl needs to be moving to operate properly anyway.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

Further down the line the air cleaner has a box similar to this as well but it's different. The lid has a bulb that is heat sensitive. It will only take warm air from the heat stove till it warms up and it opens the door to take fresh air from the cowl /pre cleaner. Kind of cool that this was all available back then. The heat stove here is from a big block 366. I'll have to rework it to look proper on the 327.

I got a nos heat stove cover and pipe to fit. It will run it to the air cleaner just like the 68 up style.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

Both mirrors and arms are complete except some minor finishing. I made the flat area round to match the profile of the mirror heads.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

Got the passenger side mirror mounted. I used a grommet in the cable hole between the backing plate and the door skin so it doesn't rub the cables on the metal plus it also holds them together while I screw the mounting screws in. If you didn't know these were not factory they could all most pass for stock.

Driver side done as well. All the cables reach where I wanted the controls to be so that is perfect and all vent windows clear. Glad to be done with these.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

I made a mounting bracket for the guidematic relay. I'll weld this on under the dash right over the vent. Should be easy to access if needed there.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

I've turned my attention to the harness that goes under the seat and the seat controls. My new seat covers are taking a long time so good time to get the wiring done. I'm going to run my dome and cargo thru the flat ribbon wires as well instead of how they did it from the factory in these trucks. I'm still not sure exactly what power seat switches and skirting I'm going to use yet.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

I didn't like the added part I put in the speedometer for the overdrive so I used the sensor at the transmission housing instead. I also took a broken speedometer cable clips i had and welded it to the hose clamp and rerouted the speedometer cable the way it was intended to be with cruise . It Looks Cleaner without the 45 adapterand the sensor. Also you can see where I mounted the tcs solenoid that is going to control the fresh air intake vacuum pod from the cowl.
