Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"

Actually do you guys think I can use the harmonic balancer from my 302? the harmonic balancer in that one is about half an inch bigger in diameter compared to the one on the 327. and will this larger balancer work wiht my smaller 153 tooth flywheel? any help on this would be greatly appreciated! gonna try and fix this before monday

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"

Go to NAPA and ask for a seal saver. It's a metal sleeve that goes over your balancer to repair the groove, cost about ten bucks.

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"

my timing chian cover kit came with one but the thing is it has grooves it hasnt been completely warn down.. so it wouldnt fit over the harmonic balancer. it would most definalty fit the groovd parts but the other smooth parts were barely to big... so i couldnt use it.

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"

Well went over to my grandpas and he "smelled me pull up" lol he said I was runnin really rich so he played with the carb a little and he got me runnin as lean as I can go. After that we went to the back of the truck and he was trying to smell how rich I still was and I said to him " what do you think is making it run so ruff?" He said " what are you talking about? It's not misfiring at all. When I was playing with the throttle and revving it I could tell it has great pickup, you got yourself a cam in this bad boy!" So looks like all I need to do is replace the harmonic balancer so I keep my oil

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"

had a big set back yesterday the bolt that goes through the alt and goes into the ram horn broke off yesterday... so i had to use a different manifold and use those little bracket things i made.. its not very good for perminate use but for now its ok. my uncle works at a mechanic shop here in a****er and my dad is going to take the manifold there today and hes going to try and take it out of the ram horn. so i hope that works! if not then im screwed. it looks so good to all nice and silver. and exactly what i needed. so hopefully today i can stop by after school and get it. and then i can install that again and make sure to be catious about what bolt i use and how long it is and going to lubricate the threads i would rather have it so lubricated it keeps coming loose then to have it tight and it snap again lol

That's a bummer Rick. Hopefully he can get it ou with a little heat maybe. It's what we do to frozen exhaust manifold bolts

yeah i have faith in him, hes been a mechanic for about 30 years hes got alot of tricks under his sleeve. but man i am tired of all these bolts breaking with engines and stuff first the 302 and now the 327! anyways i went and gave my buddy his harmonic balancer installer back yesterday night (my dad broke it ) and when i pulled up he said it sounds like i have a foul plug or wire. so just because its a new engine to me and i just did the swap im going to change all the plugs and wires and then we'll see how it goes after that. on thursday im taking it to modesto and back, so i need to get crackin with the uning and leaks!

oh and the leak has gotten waayyyyyyy better i cant see smoke behind me anymore and the oil pressure guage stays good and drops very slowly on a trip from a****er to merced and back to a****er.

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"

no dice wiht the bolt.. so i can do a couple more things and after that if it doesnt do the trick then im screwed.. so im still trying. the leak i haveent done anything more then i did the last update to fix it. today however i am going to go get the harmonic balancer tools. that way i can fix the leak in the front and after that my 327 should probably be a little better balanced i know its one thing at a time and im taking care fo the engine first but.... im really considering lowering the truck. debating on cutting a coil or 2 or just waiting and getting drop coils. im thinking maybe a 2-3 drop.. i kinda like a SLIGHT rake. and i really want to get the alighnment done on the truck and get the caps chromed and the red repainted. need to figure out how much all that will be after i take car of the engine. before the year is up i do want to get the bud buckets reupholstered though.

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"

I'm not old school in the sense of suspension so in that case I would highly recommend drop spindles not springs becaus from what I've heard throughout my time on the boat is that the closer your springs are to stock height the better ride you will experience. Yes they are pricey but 200-225$ well spent in front when you do so. As for the back possibly adding blocks to the arms could help and since you aren't going too far drop shocks won't be needed an adjustable trac bar might be in need tho so you don't dog walk all over town

If worse comes to worse carefully drill it out and retap the threads. It sounds worse than it is, just take it slow
