I'm going to change mine to FI too.. just not sure which kit.

Just something about the BBC lurking under that hood.

I'm have been researching some of the fuel injection options out there but won't be doing that for a while. There are a lot of options out there now so it will be a tough choice. I think overdrive will be first up.

Can't you do a 4L80E without a computer? I have a buddy with a carb'd 454 and a 4L80E in a 54 F**d and I'm pretty sure it worked like a champ. Something to look into.

I don't know, Nate said he is not sure if I can fit the 4L80E with my Touring Dropmember without modifying the cab floor as nobody has tried it yet. I certainly don't want to be the guinea pig and end up having to modify it.

Like I said before , so glad to see you keeping the BBC . Research the many efi systems out there . The learning curve is huge , if you want to take it past the self learning tunes . Get the info and read it and read it over and over till it starts to make sense !! It will be worth it ! I can't wait to get mine fired with the tuning equipment I have from Craig Moates . A carb is nice , efi is phoenominal !!

Thanks for the info Chris, I will be watching your thread closely to see how your efi install turns out.

I was getting wrapped up in the LS craze and had to remind myself that this truck is not a daily driver so I don't have to worry about gas mileage etc. I'm mostly concerned with having overdrive on the highways and eventually having fuel injection. If this was a daily driver I would definitely be installing an LS for all the obvious reasons. I think your big block is looking pretty awesome as well

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

I dream of an all original short box and finding a 5.3 to put in it at as a daily driver. Maybe someday... And thanks for the compliment. Hope to have a trans, driveline and brake lines in soon so I can finally start on some body work

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

When we first started my re-build we were going to big block it, my grandpa was really wanting to find an old 348 or 409 to put in in, he had one for years laying in the building and ended up selling it long before this came along. We wanted to get on of those to have something a little different but wow with the prices of them we got bit by the LS bug and never looked back.

Someday in the far far distant future it will have an LS but for now I'll be rocking the big block. I want to wait on the LS until I can put a beast in like the LSX 454 or something. That would be sick.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

What has more power? A race horse or a Clydesdale / Draft horse?

Olympic power lifter or an Olympic Triathlete? There's just different advantages and disadvantages to both.

I kinda like the strong man analogy personally. Brutal power but can't carry it up a flight of stairs. Know what I mean?

I'm an ex / injured / old Triathlete myself but.. I'm still a BBC guy at heart.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

Had some time to work on the truck today and I managed to get a few loose ends tied up. I finally installed the correct motor mounts so now my motor is completely bolted in the frame . Also mounted my rack and pinion today and bolted my sway bar back on. It needs different end links so I need to get those. Looks like I'm going to be in the market for new headers as mine are going to have some clearance issues with the steering shaft. I don't have much room to get the steering shaft through there.

Give me a buzz Keith.... I have some pics that may prove helpful for your steering shaft clearance.

Can you keep the headers by using a u-joint a notching the frame a bit?

I don't think so, I would probably have to modify the truss on the dropmember too which I don't want to do. If I can find a set of headers that hug the block a little closer I would rather just swap headers. I'll send a picture to Nate and see if he possibly has a solution.
