Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
I just purchased a 1972 Suburban Highlander. Quite a few enthusiasts on here...what can you tell me about it? Seems pretty rare

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
I haven’t seen too many subs on here with the highlander package. Very cool

Very cool. What color is the plaid seat material? I can't tell from the picture but looks gray or avocado. Curious what color would come with the bronze paint.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
On a Med Bronze Highlander Suburban, codes 522, 551 and 582, code 639 Gray Plaid was "the" recommended color trim combination. Others required a minor special order proceedure.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
Welcome to the boards. There are great people on here that are very knowledgeable about any aspect of 67-72 truck, burbs and Blazers/Jimys. As you can see there are 1260 posts just in this tread that SS Tim started so anything you want to find out about Highlanders is probably covered on this or the Plaid Suburban Post.

The Special Two-Tone of Med Bronze primary with White roof and rockers is a striking combination. Combined with the Avocado Plaid and white vinyl trim more so. Plus since that was not a "recommended trim combination", someone jumped through the minor hoops to special order it that way. Probably the best place to start is the Plaid Suburban specific page linked in my signature. Also that is the best place to post questions too. Welcome to the board! :-)

That's some SPID. I just know there is a junkyard, somewhere, with nothing by a/c compressors, tubing, and brackets in it. And nothing else.

That last one definitely seen better days. Price is right where I see people selling them for these days though.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
About thirty years a go I bought a K10, and I actually got the compressor with all the brackets still attached and hoses. It is still up on the top shelf with my AC stuff.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
I finally took a picture of my spid. And yes I see the highlander code.
Here is a picture of my seat on the day I brought it home. I will someday soon have it redone in its original color. It is really cool owning one of these trucks, and even cooler Having a highlander!

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
Someone went through a fair amount of trouble adding Cheyenne badging, etc to this Highlander. Lol, some would argue it's probably more sought after as a Highlander! I always get spooked when the wheelbase is scratched out on the SPID, though...

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
Yeah, but they didn't scratch out the model #. It was a long bed. I think it would have been nicer left as original. There's a long list of how not to imitate a Cheyenne Super on this truck.

I appreciate the knowledge regarding model numbers. I never knew the short boxes and long boxes were different. Well said, regarding the "how not to" as well!

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
Yep, model # on a swb truck would be CE10734. The seller's ebay ad is rather misleading - several statements of original, not restored, blah blah etc.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
I concur Mark, a white roof black body Highlander with grey plaid seats and the YG8 Package and as a bonus a 3:73 rear end which makes the truck, even in stock form, gallop pretty good as I soon realized after driving my Highlander home a few years ago. At least the A/C is intact on this one.. LOL...

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
Having a great looking spid then scratching out the wheelbase is kinda dumb. You can figure out what it is from the vin. What they did was kinda like the tempest or Le Mans/Ventura being turned into a gto clone. It’ll never be worth what the actual car was but everyone has their own taste and can do what they want with their truck. Just don’t try and pass it off as something it’s not to a perspective buyer.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
One last comment on the black truck. I'm trying to figure out where he got the 16 inch 5 bolt rallys so he can run the 265/70 16 inch tires. Maybe someone is producing 16 inch rallys today as I've never seen or heard of them on an 80's truck, oh yea and has the misconception that rallys came on the 67-72's.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
It may be black. Might have just been green Dashpad making me think that. Painted area is pretty faded. Still don’t think Dashpad and seat cover match, but after almost 50 yrs something is bound to be changed.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
Guess I’m late to the party. Bought my Blazer at the end of 2017 and almost to interior. Here’s my SPID and the back seat which was all that was left of the stock interior beside the door panels
