Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks

I've got a quick question, if you don't mind. Do you have any idea what this type of grille is called? I've seen a few of them, but I can't find anywhere that sells them.

I love it! A '96? Was it yours when it was on the Street Trucks cover? What issue was that?

Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks

yup its a 96. it got the cover when the previous owner had it. we bought it from him several years ago. its the june 2000 issue. he did alot of **** to it then. the motor is all built to a 502, roller rockers, thorley headers, stainless exhaust. the super trapps baffles are out now. so its a loud sob. i gett alota **** from people because the paint. but its fun load it up and cruise it around everywhere.

Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks

I don't know what it is about the paint. On one hand it is a little...I don't know what word to use...ugly, tacky...I dunno. And it's a very dated look. But at the same time, it is just so friggin' cool that I love it! I don't even like the taillights and exhaust setup, but they also are still cool as hell. There are so many things that aren't to my taste and that I would have never done, but if you gave me the truck, the only things I would probably change would be to either paint the grille or swap it out with a GMC grille and maybe paint the bumper. That's it.

I seriously just cannot put my finger on exactly what it is about that truck that makes it so awesomely cool to me!

Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks

i know exactly what you mean. the paint is absolutely hideous. but it kinda grows on ya. he did alot of subtle things to it body wise. honda civic door handles up front, shaved the rear, extended the upper body line past the rear doors, did a flush mount antenna, sun roof, shaved the bed stake holes. if i ever goet enough money to, the paint roll pan and exhaust will be the first to go.

Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks

Can't see the handles in the pics for the yellow stripes across them.

I have NEVER understood why GM seemed to just forget to put the bodyline on the c-pillars like that. Friggin' retarded. My bodyman was redoing a friend's crew cab dually and I convinced both my bodyman and my friend that they needed to put that bodyline in, so they did.

Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks

I'm not feeling the push bar, but I like the rest of the truck. It brings back memories. My '91 was originally that same color, same grille, same interior color. Ahhh, the good ole' days.

The airbrushed headliner is sick, and the bulllet holes in tailgate go with the theme.

The "bomb" sub enclosure has a JLW612 in there and started it's life as an air tank on a big rig. Just cut it up, removed the separation inside the tank, sound deadener, 1.5" of MDF for a lip that I used windshield urethane to put in place, auger tubing for the rear portion of the bomb, plasma cut the fins, mounted a lip inside so that it could be taken apart at a later date. Drilled and riveted together, sketched out the "mustang" face wit a bit more attitude, then hand painted to look a bit old. Wanted the brush strokes etc to be evident. Didn't turn out to bad. Also broke and welded a pocket in the top of it for remotes, phone, wallet etc. Swivels up and sits straight up and down when the back seat is in the up position for shows etc.

The color is my own mix, I used Endura single stage paint with flattening agent. I was hopeing for it to turn out a bit more flat, but it is super easy to maintain, and I drive on gravel roads daily and it holds up VERY well. Very happy with it all in all. And cheap to do as well. The color is very strange when it comes to light though, it changes with the light ALOT. And it is very particular with painting conditions as well. Temperature, drying time, how it is applied etc, all chanes it in one way or another as far as flattening goes. The best way is lots of light coates. The heavier it is applied the more shine it will have. PITA if you are painting some parts at home and the main truck assembled in a booth like I did. Made for a challenging project to say the least.

Flames in the casing is basically just me getting bored..lol. I was waiting on parts and couldn't do anything else at the time, so out came the welder when I was welding up the tubes on the 14FF, and just freehanded some flames, then touched them up with the die grinder. Subtle but you'd be surprised how many people notice them...lol.

Ya, the tailgate we used a .40 cal handgun. You'd be surprised how much flack I get when people at shows go "you seriously didn't put bullet hole stickers on..." or "those fake bullet holes are pretty cheezy" Till I tell them that they are real, then the look on their face goes sorta blank and they then think I am nuts...lol. Either that or I have people "fingering" my truck...lol. Kind of funny watching people go up with their fingers and putting their fingers in the holes....then laughing.

Devillusion, that truck is sick!!! Did it start life as a 1500? Is that a 350 in there?

Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks

In 2002 I bought it with 110,000km on it and was a bone stock K1500 with a 60/40 and cloth interior.... and had never hauled a single thing. An elderly farmer wife used it to go to town and get groceries, etc. Just small stuff. Wasn't even a scratch in the box...lol.

It actually has a stock (internals) 305 in it....seriously. All that has been done is a Wester's Garage tune, Borla cat back exhaust, flex a lite dual fans, Volant cool air intake, and a vararam intake plenum insert. Other than that...stock. When I was running the 37's it would smoulder them with a locker. With the 40's it's a bit tougher but still holds it's own and I get 420km per tank hwy/city driving, and I usually don't drive very nice. It definetly needs an upgrade at some point and will more than likely be getting a cummins swap along with my 89 crew cab. Actually looking for a donor crew cab to swap everything over and make a crew short in my 98 as well. The search is on but haven't found anything worth while yet. I can't leave well enough alone....hahahaaha.

...here is the link to my cardomain and 8 lug write up. Don't want to take over this thread to badly, not that I don't like talking about it...lol. Just don't want to whore it up in here to badly...
