Re: Lurker OrrieG Progress Pics
Kim - you or anyone else can drop in a post a "looks good" anytime, lets be know folks are paying attentions.
Today got the inside of the doors jambed, redid the clear at the inside window, it came out 'sandy" before. Also got the hidden parts of the grill surround done. So, I can put the guts and glass in the doors, install the front clip, windshield and back window, seats and start driving it for shake down. Will also get the final blocking primer on. Feels like progress.

Re: Lurker OrrieG Progress Pics
looking good!
haha reminds me of the time I did stripes on a truck. taped, my friend laid the color, I wet sanded what seemed like all day, retaped, he laid on the clear with purple pearl and when he got to the tailgate went across the top and WHOOSH all the dust in the paper over the bed flew all all over the fresh clear on the roof and hood. oh, did I curse. and sand. lots more sanding.

Re: Lurker OrrieG Progress Pics
Looks Good! Nice work!
Sometimes just a simple acknowledgement can give a lot of encouragement to the builder and let them know that there is interest and a following in what they are doing, it really does make a difference! Especially if the builder is doing stuff for the first time and learning as they go, like me..... I'm probably the other guy on this forum that is sometimes at a loss for something new to say and post much of the same stuff, but hopefully it helps to encourage them. That said I'm more than happy to read any compliments on my thread, as well as ideas or answers to questions.

Re: Lurker OrrieG Progress Pics
Thanks, cleared out the in box. Got the front fenders, grill surround and bed sides in blocking primer. Hood, tail gate and front bed panel are good. Next is installing the windshield, back window and putting the doors together.

Re: Lurker OrrieG Progress Pics
Always fun, this is my therapy! Worked yesterday undercoating all of the insides of the fenders. I was never a big fan of undercoating until I started taking my truck apart. I found that the bottom of the cab, firewall and front fenders that had been undercoated had not rusted compared to the areas that were not.

Re: Lurker OrrieG Progress Pics
What kind of undercoating are you using? I mainly just like it for killing sound

Re: Lurker OrrieG Progress Pics
Took off old UC and paint to metal, primed with etch prime. Then brushed on heavy coat of Rustoleum oil based white satin (same stuff I used on the cab interior). Then rattle can rubberized undercoating from Oriellys, Permatex brand I believe. About $8 a can, took 4 cans to do under cab and bottom of firewall, inside front fenders and cowl exposed to stuff kicked up by the tires, fleetside side panels on wheel side and wheel side of wells. I liked that it comes out in a 2-3" diameter pattern instead of a larger spray gun pattern so I could control it better and keep it where I wanted it.

Re: Lurker OrrieG Progress Pics
No pics but fighting the windshield to get it in. I remember the last time one went in (this one) the guy I to fight it pretty hard to get it in. Limited by the amount of abuse my arthritic hands can take! Also had my grandson come over the we reassembled the bed metal on the back. Started it up and carb is acting up, thing I got it all gummed up when I used it as donor on a truck I tried to get running. Decided to just buy a new one and be done with it.

Your hard work is paying off! I broke the first windshield I put in my 58.... the second I had a glass shop out in. I can do the 67-72 ones all day long but the really curved glass I have not mastered....

Re: Lurker OrrieG Progress Pics
Rod you are right. Warmed up the garage and finally got the windshield installed. In 77 I had a new one put in by a windshield guy moonlighting. I remember him really having to beat it in. At the time he said it was a tight fit. Lesson learned is to pay attention to the bead weld, I think that mine is a little "fat" into the opening at the top and it was catching the gasket, even using the rope trick. After applying heat with a hair dryer and a lot of whacking, and using a fabricated hook to work the lip in, I got it past the interference point and the top dropped in and the bottom corners settled. Now I can button up the interior and get the front clip installed.

Re: Lurker OrrieG Progress Pics
Going to work to get it on the road in primer, I miss driving it in the snow. With some weight in the bed it is fun on the back roads.

Re: Lurker OrrieG Progress Pics
Thank you, everything on hold, to cold and cannot dig out the Chevelle blocking the garage door anyway. Have 4' of snow I shoveled off of the DD side of the driveway, over a foot on the ground turning to ice and 7-10 inches more projected for this afternoon and night. Tomorrow temps warm up and we get freezing rain, they rain next week with severe flooding (I live in a high area that does not flood). Going to suck for all the people that bought homes in the former river flood way subdivisions built in the last ten years. They are going to learn "Eagle Island" is not a pretty name but a reality. I remember seeing water over the fence tops and in some cases to bottom of house eaves in the 80's when we last had a weather event like this.

Re: Lurker OrrieG Progress Pics
Finally been making some progress. Decided to button up the interior, I keep sorting thru the same stuff. Installed the seat frame, all the upholstery on it, tranfer case shift boot, mirror, sun visors, em brake handle and foot pedal. Had to shorten the visors about 3 1/2". If you remember I had quite a rant about the passenger side being too short, compared to the driver I had. Turns out I grabbed one I had from a 62 donor truck thinking it was the 59. When I went to install it the bracket, which looks similar would not fit and the visor covered half the mirror. I ordered the correct bracket and shortened the visors. Made a template and transfered the location to the passenger side for the hole and installed. Mirror is not original to the truck, put was in perfect shape except for color. Em pull handle came threaded instead of press fit like original so I had to remove the lever and thread it, luckily I had the odd 12-24 die. Here are some pics. Next installing the radio antenna and steering wheel (one in photo is the eldo one) then putting the glass in the doors.

Re: Lurker OrrieG Progress Pics
Orrie,
Everything looks great. I have to comment that you've got a LOT of "stuff" cammed into the kick panel area especially since you still have the vents functional. I've kept my vents too and also used a foot-applied parking brake. We had to cut the vent cover and re-weld it to allow the pedal to swing clear. I like your light and vent, can you tell me what they came from? I'm not sure I'll put my AC vent there but pretty sure I WILL put some kind of floor illumination - probably old fashioned half-chrome-shaded license plate lights.
