Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime

Nothing really exciting to speak of. Blue got a new Tie for Christmas. It sucks that my old NOS Chevy Bowtie got broken. This aftermarket one didn't even fit flush on the edges. I was so aggravated about the situation I bent into submission over the handle of my 4" grinder. It was either going to fit or it was going to break. I'm not going to pull my motor until after our May race at the Tx Motorplex. Then it will be time for new valves and valve springs. I may also try another cam in the motor. If I do I need to figure that one out pretty quick or I wont get one in time. Meanwhile I've been working on the race trailer some. I'm going to get the bent dovetail fixed along with other things that need to be addressed. Our first race is in 8 weeks in Belle Rose La. I'm itching to go already. Happy New Year everyone.

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime

I have been working on my trailer a lot lately. I'm trying to fix a lot of things and possibly repaint it sometime this year. Two years ago I hit a Buzzard at 75 mph that bounced off my windshield and then hit the trailer. It took me 3 or 4 hours but I pulled an interior panel out behind the the nose. Beat on it inside and out and worked around the soup bowled dent till I got it to stay round. It's hardly noticeable now. Now I don't have to tell the funny story about how the dent got there.

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime

Back to working on the truck. One thing I needed to do before the first race was change the oil. I got tired of burning money on oil filters so I called Joe at Sunset Performance and ordered this slick little unit. It spins apart for easy inspection and is cleanable. So it should pay for itself in a couple of seasons. I paid $20 for an oil filter on my Onan generator. Racing filters aren't going down either.

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime

I only had a small to do list for the truck. One was floats and needle and seats for the carburetors. I spent a couple of hours Saturday working on the carbs trying to fine tune float springs for more consistent operation. I went back to the old style of float I ran for years hoping it will help with my 60ft inconsistency issued. I also got the oil changed and new filter installed. I'm swapping my slicks around on the wheels today and will run them five more races. I still need to get new spark plugs and lash the valves then it will be ready to go. The trailer is supposed to go to the shop tomorrow to straighten out the bent dove tail. Then I just have to clean everything up and load up. Our first race is Feb 24th in Belle Rose, Louisiana.

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime

Well the first race of the year is in the books. I just got home from No Problem Raceway in Belle Rose, La. You know that place I went to 400 miles away two years in a row and didn't get to race. I lost second round but at least I got to race. I had to race one of my old friends Chucky Weir second round. I was way late on the tree and broke out trying to get something done on the top end. He ended up as the Runner Up today. D.B. knows who he is because they race at the same track all the time. The next one will be in Houston in a month. Maybe I can do a better job there.

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime

Yes Sir, Chuck Weir is no slouch, the man can race. I should be seeing him at XRP March 12th. I hope all of my practicing works out. Give you guys credit with those delay boxes. Man it is tough to break old habits. Good luck in Houston.

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime

It will be that time again next week. One more race in Houston for us. We didn't think we would get to race there again but I would be willing to bet this is the last. It's one of my favorite tracks. All I need to do to the truck is run the valves and put it in the trailer.

Meanwhile look what followed me home yesterday. The C-50 got an organ donor. I'm getting closer and closer to getting started.

I plan on it being nice and I have a vision. I've already had the truck for nearly two years now. Time flies by the older you get. Maybe I'll have it built before I'm 60. I'll be 57 in May.

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime

Well we were in Baytown at Houston Raceway Park last weekend. It was the last NHRA event ever to be held there. The truck was doing very good. The driver not so good. I got some glasses a few weeks ago in hopes it would be helpful on the top end. They were just a pita fogging up etc so I ran without them. I've been good on the tree in three different states at three different tracks since last summer. Not this weekend though. I was just horrible is the only way to put it. I was bad first round and screwed the run up even worse by doing something I've never done. I lost my place on the track and lifted early. I dropped to 3rd in the Allstar points because my mistakes. We will be in Noble Ok next month to try again and then the Tx Motorplex in May. I still have a chance at the Alllstars but I lost a bunch of ground. Any of you that have allergies will understand. My sinuses and throat were burning the whole time I was there. That sinus pressure has an affect on your brain function sometimes along with your vision. I'm hoping I'll be back in the groove in a month.

Thanks Greg. You know how this stuff works. One bad weekend can really screw you. There's still enough races though.

It's time to go to Oklahoma again. It's not Tulsa Time but it's Noble Time.
