Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

Put in the gas tank and rear speakers. Had to move the gas tank more to the center to get the drivers side speaker to fit. Rebuilt and installed the vent windows. Had new drivers and passenger windows remade and tinted. The old ones were just to scratched. Had the rear window tinted and installed it. Had the drive shaft shortened and balanced. Installed the drive shaft. Installed the new sun visors, outside mirrors, rear trac bar, rear shocks and ran the gas lines. Took the rear axles to get them re-drilled to 5 lug.

I think that is it. I think the only things I need to buy are wheels and tires, carpet kit, wood for the bed to go under the diamond plate, buy diamond plate and have the sides of the bed rhino lined.

Still need to run the new wire harness. Install the windshield ( waiting til i put the wire harness in so it will have more ventilation and not be so hot). Hook up the stereo. Drill new holes for the seat mounts. Install the arm rests.

Sounds almost identical to my to-do list.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

Made two tailgate "down-position chain tabs" from some scrap 1/4" box tubing.

Welded them to the tailgate end plates (which I had to drill out to get the old hacked-up tabs off).

Epoxy primer on the recently stripped/blasted inner and outer firewall, cowl, fresh air vents, kick panels, and floors. 2K Ceramic urethane black on the firewall.

Finally got the motor back in the chassis. Slowly but surely things are coming around. Wife highlighted the Chevrolet on the valve covers to put a little contrast in that darn orange. Might do the water outlet in black as well. I almost melted today in the garage....... Looks to be getting about 100 today. Lasted till about 2:30.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

I have a question about the pulleys not lining up. I know when I took it apart they were ok. I do not believe there is supposed to be a spacer on the pulley on the harmonic balancer. I believe I have seen this question addressed before but could not find it. It has a press on harmonic balancer, can you pull these back out some. It looks to be on too far. I only need a 1/4". The timing mark could not be seen at the tab with it on this far either. I have normally seen the end of the balancer out just a tad so that you can see the mark in the notches. Is it permissible to pull the balancer back out a 1/4"? Its not a bolt on balancer.

Thanks for any help you can give me on this.

Ron

I know the 305 had a much thicker balancer than a 350. I am not sure if it was the same comparison on early V8s. to me that lower pulley looks like one from a V6 or 305V8. I learned this when I found someone had used a 305 balancer and pulley on my 350. I ended up buying a new lower pulley which had a deeper dish that the one you showed.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

Finished cutting/welding rust issues on bed and fenders.
Installed tailgate cables on my homemade tailgate.
Got the 93 caddy tail lights installed
Sanded/primed/painted bed and fenders
Cleaned up and tuned up the cabin foot vents so the work right and dont look too crappy.

Not all in the last day, but over the last 4 weeks or so . . but finally got it to the point I can drive it again!

Thanks Andice, Palf70step I know everything was ok when I took her apart so something has changed. I will call my motor guy today and see what he says.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

Ron - The chassis work and engine work are absolutely beautiful!

The pics of the cab floor in epoxy will be my inspiration since I am going to cab floor work very soon.

I'm pulling some stuff this week off an 81 which has the entire front clip but it's 1" brakes. I already have a 86 5 lug rear with the bigger brakes.

Do you guys know if the standard 1" front disks would work okay when paired up with a HD rear brake or not?

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

Well going to mock up the alternator today to make sure I know which pulley is wrong. I have a three groove pulley on the motor which my engine guy says was never found on a 65. He gave me another harmonic balancer that is thicker so at least I will be able to see the timing mark. Looks like the chain cover might not be right either as it has a long tab on it.

Put the hood on after finally getting some paint on it. Got the wheels force balanced along with a front end alignment. Getting closer.....

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

Picked up a York compressor for install. Had a local heavy truck shop make up a hose that went from the ac type connection to a 3/8 pipe thread.

I paid $50 extra for candy blue. After throwing $1000 at it what's not to do it!?! Braided lines included.
