Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

I was told that the Seat has been recovered 14 years ago. I would like to get it back to the original highlander plaid eventually. I noticed that my SPID does not actually say highlander (I still believe it is a highlander based on everything I've read) according to its SPID it is a Z62 custom deluxe with the 611 custom trim and YG8 special promotion C. It has tilt steering, a/c, PA1 deluxe wheel covers and tinted glass. Oh, it also has front disc brakes.
Any input is greatly appreciated

Have not considered selling it yet. I've only had it about 3 weeks.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Does anyone know what this black tag located on the back of the seat is? I also noticed that the inside of the glovebox seems to be made from a cardboard type of material.

Yes, the glove boxes are made of cardboard. That tag is probably the part number of the manufacturer who supplied the seat to GM.

Welcome Donald, sharp truck. Yes a true Highlander trim truck (yours would have been blue plaid orginally (611)) and it's a Promo Pkg C, as you mentioned, which is why you have A/C & Soft-Ray (part of Pkg C) and tilt, TH350, and power steering (part of Pkg B, included in C), etc. The packages are cumulative, i.e. A is included in B, and both are included in C. Z62 just means it's a Custom Deluxe trim level, which was also the only trim level that could have Highlander plaid piggybacked onto it. PA1 wheel covers are part of the 1/2 ton packages. Front disk brakes were standard on all 71 and newer trucks, so nothing earth shattering about that Nice truck! Here's a pic of the seat cover that goes in yours:

Nice Highlander and as Jocko said has all the right stuff having the YG8 " C " Package. You can still buy the proper plaid upholstery from SMS in Oregon. Here is a link to their website.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Hey, has anyone ordered a seat cover from carsinc.com??
They say they have the highlander plaid in stock. Seat foam and everything. No waiting like I hear others are for months.
I just wonder if it's a decent product.

Good question....I was wondering that myself. They don't have any pics or much in the way of information, just a very quick, loose description.

Which part number within that (large) group would be the highlander?

Ok, so has anyone on the board every bought/ordered one of the highlander seats from carsinc?
If so, how does it look and fit? ....the real deal or?

Without a pic and a better description, I'm leery of buying anything along those lines from anyone.

All good

I know this is slightly off topic, but here are two before and two after photos of a CARSInc cover from my '71 Custom Deluxe. I ordered the fabric from SMS and had them send it to Cars, who had the white vinyl and embossed center section.

I was INCREDIBLY impressed with the quality of the cover itself, BUT the foam they were selling approximately 4-5 years ago was way too firm. I ended up pulling the cover and reusing my original foam with a bit of reinforcement added. I worked with a guy named Joe at CarsInc. His last name escapes me right now.

Jeff

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

The next cosmetic thing I do is the seat. So, I'll go first. And post pictures. But dont hold your breath. Its gonna be a few months. About a grand to get the foam, the cover. And then get it put on by an experienced person.

This plaid gmc short bed is for sale locally. I browsed through all 53 of pages of this thread and didn't see any other gmc's that were of the short wide bed variety.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

my apologies for following y'all off topic, but these are very cool too I think..

found this thread with pictures researching the original seat in my new '71 longhorn..

called 'black cloth trim' on the spid, just shouts 70's!

hadn't seen this pattern in person myself either but I love it!
