Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Got some time to work on the last valve cover last night. Should have the polishing done tonight since its going to rain all day anyways. So good indoor project after work tonight. Hope to get some paint down tonight too.

Its cleaning up pretty good but this cover has more casting flaws than the other one.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Ordered the stainless oil pressure gauge / block kit through Summit. Its an Auto Meter kit #3235....I may need an adapter fitting at the gauge, but will know more when it come in. This kit is a 4' length, but they have a longer one also.

The hose is -3 AN which is 1/8" inside, so same as the plastic line kits, but looks much better.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Had a pretty busy weekend, so truck work was marginal.

Did get the last of the white walls on the step side. Got the old step side tires on the fleetside and got the old fleetside tires on Austins 63.

Also go the original tailgate off the fleetside and my rust free donar on. Eric came by with his two sons and picked up the tailgate and a pair of inner door panels for his 62, which should be in town next weekend. So our Fayetteville c-10 club has 2 new trucks in the last few weeks.

Got the step sides old crossmember pulled out from under the carport and gave me a bunch more room. Rest of the time was spent helping Austin clean his truck out.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Have been busy with more research. Have ordered POL engine mounts and have a set of coated headers coming form a forum member who ran them with POL mounts. His truck is lowered, so he couldn't use the headers, but had no problem with fitment on the POL mounts. So engine will come out for new mounts and headers. It will also make it easier to swap the through out bearing at the same time. Shouldn't take more than a few hours to do it all, so just waiting on parts to arrive. Will keep you updated.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Thanks TJ. A constant evolution it seems. Be nice to get the motor buttoned up. Maybe I'll start the interior tear down and paint since they are calling for rain all weekend.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Those headers are sweat, well worth swapping out, are they along with the performance online tubular mounts going to solve the header clearance issue?

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Yes...The PO said he was using the same POL mounts and no clearance issues. I may end up ordering the headers new....seems I was 2nd in line on the purchase and I'm not sure if its been resolved yet. If I don't have an answer by Monday then I'll just order them from Summit who's $5.00 cheaper than Jegs at the moment. All the frame trimming I've done should be adequate also.

Its not the route I wanted to go, but it does handle several things at once, so I'll roll with the punches on this one. I'm ready to fire this monster up and go through some gears.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Got a lot done over the weekend. Started with stripping the cab down Saturday. And then started stripping paint. Will have another day or so of sanding and some of the harder to reach places, but coming out nicely so far and great metal underneath. No metal issue on any of the cab walls so far.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Column will pulled this week and go into Austin 63. I have a factory 4 speed column so I don't need to convert this one with the 4 speed delete that I have.

Also talked with the forum member with the headers. Looks like they'll be enroute this week. So I can get the engine/trans done....finally. POL mounts should be here in a few days, trans mount is ready. Just need headers in.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Its getting there. I was going to hold off on the interior until I had the engine/trans conversion done. But with a week down time waiting on parts to arrive, I figured it was as good a time as any. So I started removing all the interior components....just have the cab vents left. Which off coarse led to stripping the cab. I'll have the rest of the cab prepped and ready for primer hopefully in the next two nights after work. We had a lot of rain this weekend, so I didn't want to get anything sprayed until the air dried up some.

You do awesome work bro. I do not possess the talent you do. I'm looking for a painter in this area (Triad) that will do the paint right and reasonable. So far no luck.

My buddy craig will paint the body. Ill prep & prime. I dont mind small projects, but hes equipped for it and has far better skills. I use basic tools and alot of labor. Its not as bad as it seems if everything goes as planned.
