Re: How about some pics of '73-'87 Short Beds Part II

Update: Got some rallies on her used tires came with them. Did an oil change and drove her to the gas station a couple miles away. Not bad for sitting since Nov.2015 down the road at my neighbors property. He helped me rebuild the carburator and alil other tune up things. Runs good. Bought it a few weeks ago from him. I think I did good on this one. Hope to make it a keeper.

FYI- Round headlights models were available from 73 to 80. The 80 Silverado had one large square headlight light but the lower models were rounded in 80

Yes, my 80 GMC has round headlights but the headlight trim extends down and around the turn signals.

I've seen several "Heavy Half" trucks over the years but I have personally never seen a factory step side heavy half. Pretty cool.

Thanks Mud Man! I sure do! It's a stock 305 with a 700 tranny. 82,000 on the odo but no info on any roll over. Had a few things already taken care of, fixed the heater, the loose steering column, the leaking oil pressure sensor, and the non-working headlights. I used to live in the Bay Area for 6 years and had a good friend take a look at it for me, said it was solid except for the above fixes. It also needed smog in CA but since I'm in WA I don't care. I'm lucky we are exempt! Hence the deal for me, plus the wife and I get a road trip soon!

The rest of the truck looks pretty good too, bit of clean up but not much, nice on the smog exemption, same here in Northern Canada too..

Re: How about some pics of '73-'87 Short Beds Part II

Hey guys, new to the forum, 1986 swb 2wd, truck is done and have been driving it for the last six years, 355 small block 3 speed auto. Looking to put low back buckets and console in, then finally adding ratchet shifter. Any leads or advice where to locate vintage low backs if not what would be the best vintage replacements also any ratchet shifter advice?
Thanks guys can't wait to chat

I have nothing on seats or shifter, someone should have some advice, post a few pic's and that brings them in, always interested in a project when we can see it.

As Far as vintage low back seats go, might I suggest the older K-5 blazer seats from the late 60's through the mid 70's. They were actually optional in pickups in certain years.
I personally use B&M's Mega shifter for all my automatic shifting needs. my 77 uses the truck version which has a taller profile for fitting the truck floor to seat height better. (less reach)

Re: How about some pics of '73-'87 Short Beds Part II

I have been working on a 1966 C10 and is why I became a member of this forum. I got to looking at the square body thread and thought I'd post a pic of mine. My grandad bought it in 1981 from his best friend's widow and it had over 440,000 miles when I tore it down. Everything was brand new and it only has about 250 miles since 5 years ago when I finished it. Don't like to drive it much because I was rear ended on the way to car show about a year ago and it did $8K in damage. Thank God for collector car insurance!

8 months of hard work and I've finally been driving my truck! Long way to go, but its nice to have some pay off.

Its a '81 K10 454/465.

The front has new leaf springs and they have settled since the picture. it has a slight rake with the front lower.
