Re: 58 GMC Project

I have 58 chevy stepside. Chemical dipped to remove rust. Front fenders have rot at bottom and along rear support also headlight buckets some swiss cheese holes.
Is it more cost effective to patch via body shop or purchase new fenders which are $350-$400 each?

Re: 58 GMC Project

HAHA, WOW guys, I think the exhaust fumes have gotten to us, or the sarcasm was laid on way too thick, either way....

The trucks gorgeous, the works amazing, thats what i meant by people either getting motivated or giving up. it's hard to compare to this thing, Sorry some people (especially cal58gmc) took it wrong

P.S. this 25 year old mechanical engineering major has something up his sleeve, feel free to either ask questions or wait til I post of some progress I can actually be proud to show

Re: 58 GMC Project

I sense a bit (not) of jealousy (major!!) in Surfers constructive criticism. Why would you want to "Ban" a member that has 97,757 views and 1,126 replies, plus ONE HELL OF A BUILD!!?????????? Since i've joined this forum, I've seen nothing but cool people here, except for a few stragglers that is!

Joke or no joke, you just don't make comments like that to put people down, as an engineer (so you say) you should know the outcome of "cause & affect,"-basic principles of engineering, & where's your code of ethics!!!

No need for your survey, but just for the record-I'll gladly be the first to be on CALS survey,

SURVEYYYYY SAYS; MAJOR MOTIVATED and STILL BUILDING!!!!!

Ps: CAL "IS Cool"

Re: 58 GMC Project

Thanks for all of the kind words & support from everyone! It's been an honor and a whole lot of fun to share my build here on this site. Though the majority of the work is done I still have plans to continue to improve upon it. In a few weeks I will post on one of those improvements purchased and soon to be installed. And still to come later this summer is the big announcement that I can’t disclose yet. But when the time is right you all will be the first to know.

Surfer1316, The problem with the sarcasm posts is unlike in person, you can't see the expression on the persons face giving it. From reading the responding post some saw the joking sarcasm and some did not. Anyway, I'm glade to hear back from you that no harm was meant.

Re: 58 GMC Project

To put it like this. I have followed this post for a long time. I would call it eye candy. I have 2/3's of a front clip for a truck like this and I really dream of my truck very similar to Cal's. If that truck parked next to my house, I would be disappointed if I didn't see it when I came home every day. I let go of a 56 big window 20 years ago and have never regretted anything more in my "truck" life. You have me RE-INSPIRED. Thanks This is it

Thanks Davesride! It is to bad you still don't own that big window 56. It looks like it could have been a good truck to start with.......but wait....there's still hope! You can find another 56 and start a build!

See, you don't even know what's up my sleeve for the next up grade. You will have to come by Freedom Rider to find out.

I just went through all 46 pages, this was an amazing build start to finish.

I can't wait to see what else you have in store for it.

Cal, quick ? for you. Do you get to drive this piece of art every week? I want to make mine a clean driver, but with as much as I have into it, sometimes I get afraid it will become a garage ornament.

Cal, I am guessing that you got the 2x4 intake on. I looked back a few pages but didn't see where you actually got it installed. Great looking tatoo also. Have fun and take care.

I drive on the weekends only. Last weekend was the first time I drove it out of town and I have to say I was a nervous wreck worrying a rock would get kicked up or some fool run me off the road. Seeing all the work and $$$ you have in yours, when it's all done I it's going to be a sweet ride and I'm sure you will be just as nervous driving it as I am.

Hey Bernie,
Yes the 2X4's are on and the motor is running really strong now. How the son? Is he still in Lemoore or did he end up relocating?

Re: 58 GMC Project

He is now in Japan and the grandson is living here in Texas about an hour and a half from us. It is nice because we get to see him about every other week or so. I think they are going to be moving to Japan as soon as they can get some base housing so awe are trying to enjoy him as much as possible.

Glad to hear that it is running good...If it runs half as good as it looks then you should be needing a neck brace soon....lol.

Anyway talk to you later.

Bernie

Yep, still on Barstow. They have the show & shine ever Friday night like they did at Cali's. The cool thing now is there's a lot more bikes there.

How things coming along on your truck? Are you going to make it out there with your truck someday soon?

Re: 58 GMC Project

CAL 58 GMC One of the nicest I've ever seen. I been trying to decide TCI front end and TCI 4 link with bags. They have a package for 3300 for everything with power brake set up and rack and pinion. But after looking through this thread I might just be going a different route! The finial product is perfect. Not to low not to high.

I made it through 20-22 pages then skipped through the rest so I may have missed something. Chassis wise is there anything you would have done different now?

Hey Sinisterspeed, the one thing I would do different would be to use a four link in the rear with bags for a smoother ride. Someday I might still install a four link.

I haven't actually started on it yet. I've been working tons of overtime, building up the savings account and looking for a donor truck. I'm hoping to get started on it later this summer.

Thanks Daniel, It's a cool feeling to know my work has inspired others, just as I'm sure your work has done the same! I don't know if you plan on going to Brothers show in July, but if your are let me know so I can meet up with you.
