Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

they are 'supposed to be direct fit with the ls mods done to them... all made in the USA, all hand welded. there's a thread on the 67+ side about them. really nice looking product.

The Painless chassis wiring kit is worth every single penny! I used one on my 83 K10 and have not had one single electrical problem. It's worth the peace of mind too. It did take 2 solid days to do everything, but the result is worth the trouble. When you first get it and open the box you may want to shoot yourself. Just sit down with a cold beverage of your choice and read the directions several times in a row, and lay all the wiring out on the floor and study it for several hours! Based on reading your entire thread, and seeing your attention to detail I doubt you'll have any problems, you may even consider yourself to be a wiring expert when your done! Good luck!

Before you order the Entropy Technology, call Performance Radiator. They are all over the country. I have had pretty good luck with them in the past. They may offer the right radiator for your needs for Silver. Performanceradiator.com

You're really setting the bar for a restomod truck.

Now I know what I need to beat at least

This may be challenging

Everything is looking amazing my friend. That painless harness will make that wiring alot easier. At least you wont be like my old neighbor, after his car had an underhood fire, he rewired the entire thing with speaker wire.

speaker wire is 'almost' as bad as wiring trailer brakes with orange extention cord wire! (nice little mess my grandfather did to her back in the day!)

as for the cab... Draggin86 is coming over tomorrow for BBQ and we'll get it all finished up. its funny you ask about waiting for something from Colorado! i have this buddy thats doing some custom work on the engine covers but i havent seen any pics for a couple months! must be some "REALLY CUSTOM" work that is taking longer than expected! Rich has only asked about them 5-6 times in the last week! i'll have to call today and see how he's doing on them

well, as far as i can tell it has everything... the kit i got through summit. i waited until their "special $100 off" deal was over! so i paid the reg. price. $588 to the door. was here in 2 days. we'll all see how painless the install is

I used the same kit Dennis just got on my 83 K10. It was the most challenging part of the build, but probably the most rewarding when I connected the battery terminals and everything worked as it was supposed to. I spent 2 solid days on wiring, but it turned out very, very clean! Like I told Dennis, I would highly recommend the Painless Kit. It's not for the faint of heart, but if you have a basic understanding of electrical wiring you'll be fine. Between the Painless manual, the Haynes or Chiltons Manual and plenty of careful planning it's not that bad. You have to force yourself to get past the massive bundle of wires and take it one step at a time. Plus, each and every wire is color coded and marked with a 3 digit number every few inches. All in all, its definitely worth the trouble!

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

I can't say that I've ever heard anything bad about Painless products. I think a few of their harnesses are a little overpriced -vs- what someone can put together on their own, but that's all I have "bad" to say about them. Some people do get in over their heads with electrical, but like buckshot said; if you have a basic understanding of 12v electrical and take your time, it'll turn out good. Best thing is, once you've done it once, any electrical gremlins will be pretty easy to trouble shoot.

Then again, I LOVE 12v electrical. But I'm just like that!
