Greys have always been polished as far as I know. We have had a set on my dad's 83 square body for 2 years and his 18" greys have the polished lip. We are very happy with them after we put on an aftermarket spindle, rotor and hub assembly. Fit like a glove. Thanks to LoLife's input.

Has anyone ran 22x9.5 on all 4 corners and if so do you have any pictures. i am debating on 20' or 22's. Not sure which would look better. I also am running a 5.5/7 inch drop on the truck.

If it helps any the 22X9.5 only shows one backspace of 5.75" . 20"s would definitely be less work unless you did 20's and 22's which would be cool. I have a few customers who have done that with daytona's and other wheels. I dont have any personal experience with the 22" 338 wheel on a 67-72. Other than I am in the middle of lowering a 70 short step for a customer and we are doing 22X9.5's on the back and 20X8.5's on the front. It will be a little while but I will post pics when I get further along. Just pulled the Axles today to get them machined for 5-lug. I am doing a 4.5" -6" drop on it along with 5-lug discs on front.

I am guessing I am going to have to run a spacer on the rear to get the wheel where I want it ........ we will see though.

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5

A 22x9.5 (with a 5.75" BS) is the same as a 8.5" wide wheel (with a 4.75" BS)
In my opinion,... this isn't enough backspace up front with a stock crossmember and stock width a-arms.
Most people run a 8.5" wide wheel up front with a 5.25" BS because that's all that is available.
(I like 5.5"-5.75" BS on my 8.5" wide front wheels)

22's can be made to work as long as you keep your overall tire height in check.
I doubt you can do this with the stock inner fenders installed.

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5

i am running 22x9.5" panthers on it right now but am rubbing on the passenger side. i think it would be less of a headache to just go with the 20's and smaller width so they can fit better in the fender. i am also running a 5.5 inch static drop in the front. am i going to have to put spacers on the front or back for fitment?

If you have a fleetside with the wider rearend ... late 70 and newer ......20X10 with 5.50BS will fit on the rearend. If you 71 and newer parts on the front ( there are other scenario' also that this will work, aftermarket spindles etc. ) .... 20X8.5 with 5.25 BS will fit. And this setup requires no spacers

As Lo-Life was saying a little more backspace would be Ideal but when it comes to cast wheels you are limited by what the manufacturer makes and 5.25Bs in the 8.5 is the best I have seen any company do. Something else that Lo-Life touched on is narrower control arms would be the same basically as using a wheel with more backspace as it pulls the wheel and tire further under the truck.

If you were to have wheels made then you could specify exactly what you want .... BUT that doubles the price of the wheel almost.

Disclaimer ..... !!!!!!!!!! I'm not an expert at this as there is always something new popping up. Given whats out there the above combo does work and looks the best to me....

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5

Anybody have any pointers for running 20x10 Boss 338's on a 60-66 fleetside with a '72 rear axle? My rear axle overall length is 65". Should I order the 5.5" bs or the 6.23" bs. I want to run a 295/40/20 tire. Thanks!!

I'm thinking you will need the 6.225" BS.
I would just get out a tape and measure your truck yourself.

Did you install an adjustable track bar so you can verify the rearend is centered in the truck?

Thanks for the advice LOLIFE99. Best for me to measure once the bed is back on......just eager to order wheels!! I did install the adjustable track bar and shock relocate kit from Early Classic to get things centered. Thanks again.

Just remember, when measuring,... a 10" wide wheel is actually 11" outside-to-outside.

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5

Here are some pics of my ride with 20x8.5 black Boss 338's. Picked them up from Discount about a year ago and love them! I had no problem fitting them on my ride. I have 1'' rotors and they already made the changes to the center to fit over the wheel bearing portion. Would have gone with a deeper dish on the rear except it wouldnt have fit with my link set up in the rear. Also I can rotate the wheels for longer life time! Let me know what you think.

The wheels for because of your 1" rotors, not because of any changes they supposedly made. 55 pages of this thread confirm that. Nice ride!

Well, then of course they fit. With no disrespect intended toward your friend, Boss hasn't fixed jack s*** no matter what he may have heard. This is discussed extensively in this thread, if you take the time to read (and it really is interesting reading, believe it or not). Unfortunately, about 15.3% of the thread (+/- 84.7%) is someone trying, as I'm doing now, to quash this persistent "Hey, they fixed the problem!" excitement when, without exception, it has always turned out to be someone with light-duty rotors.

This thread is about Boss 338s. It's hard enough to keep the thread on topic as it is without throwing some other wheel into the mix. Please start a new thread if you want to discuss other wheels. Thanks!
