Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Never ceases to amaze me... how something simple can go so wrong...
After just working 11 days straight of 12hr days, I had a couple hrs of truck time..
I had the doors ready to hit again with some epoxy which I was gonna follow right behind that with the high build...so I got the epoxy sprayed and went to cleanup the gun to spray the hb in the morning before having to go to work..
and yep I dropped the paint gun
Of course it landed on the breakable part...so I'm dead in the water ..went to order a new one and they're outta stock till the end of june..
but dang it..doesnt seem like I can get a break......well except for a broke gun

I'm going to send you a lot of good thoughts. It may not help, but with the luck you've been having, it can't hurt!

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

When I sprayed the epoxy the other day I shot a couple coats on the tailgate chains...
I had previously sandblasted and primed them last year.. but trying to prep the chains for paint was near Impossible ...so I blasted them again and shot them with epoxy..I had a 72hr window for painting without scuffing, so I hung them up this morn and shot some red on them with my detail gun.....and I didn't drop the gun this time..!!
Not sure how I'm gonna like the painted chains...Im gonna put a sleeve over them anyway...
I may go back later on and get the chains and brackets powder coated black...but thatll be much later

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

And while I had a little extra red left over from chain painting ..I took what was left and added some flattner to it and sprayed the hole plugs that go in the doors where you access the hinge bolts...I had forgotten them when I painted all the interior parts...trying to figure out how to hold them and get paint all over was a little challenge..you couldnt lay them on anything...the airflow from the paint gun would send them flying ...so I used some 1/2" PVC and the plugs snapped perfectly over the pvc... easy peasy...

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

I know paint guns are like coke vs Pepsi and we all have our preferences but I layed some nice paint with the Harbor Frieght gun set. I want to say it was the purple gun. That is if you decide to get in a hurry while doing the 7/12 thing. Sorry about the bad luck. I would send you some of mine but you would "return to sender".

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Here are my IHs that I mentioned yesterday.

1959 B100 all original. Just lowered with a front axle lowered mono spring for 1955-1959 Chevy truck. Flip kit in the rear with an Explorer 8.8 rear end. The dimensions were identical.

1965 Travelette C1100. It’s a 2wd 1/2 ton. Bought it from the original owner. Has an aftermarket ac from the 60s with the 345 V8 automatic. If you didn’t know, IH didn’t get titles for the truck until it sold. Owner bought in 1965, but the truck is actually the 1963/1964 design based on the grille.

This is how the Travelette sat before I bought it. Soaking up the Vegas sun for 30 years in this same spot.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Well...heres what I replaced the broke gun with..has very good reviews for a under $200 gun..
Black widow HTE with a 1.3 tip...if it works out ok I may go back and pick up a black widow hvlp to use for primer..it has the 1.7 tip..then I'll have 2 guns..one for primer and one for paint..

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

This is when even a simple job like painting the steering column feels like a win..!!
Not sure what they painted this thing with at the factory but the old paint looked like it was 1/8" thick..got it sanded off and shot it with some semigloss...

Gotcha. With a part like that you can be done with a rattle can before you can even get the gun set up to spray. Then you got cleanup after that.

Keep on keeping on my man.

I just read this whole thread, nice work. I like the ways you’ve figured out all the problems that have come up. Looking forward to seeing more! It’s going to be a very nice truck when you’re done. Your folks will be blown away.
