Re: 72 k20 project
Why not have the inside coated and leave the outside raw?

Re: 72 k20 project
oh, i vote CR and 5600. that would be a sweet combo. i really want to do a CR at some point. the electronic tunability is very cool. i like the simple reliability of this old mechanical set up for my truck, but there is always another project cooking in my head. i will say, i think my next "hotrod" diesel project will have a built auto. autos are fun to drive.
thanks for the kind words! |

yeah, to heck with that port work. thank goodness for ear buds, ear muffs and safety glasses. that stupid compressor ran for a long time! here are a few things i've been tinkering with. that twitch i talked about a while back, hasnt gone away. here are those precision spacer washers. gotta be careful to keep it all lined up. all six replaced. feels much better. just before you want to stop because it is to tight, it bottoms. this also gave me an opportunity to check that the not as intended o-ring set up wast not being overcrushed. every thing looked great there. cut this out welded and installed. painted sort of pretty. stuck an old filter on. i need another filter nipple to get both installed and ill need to get some filters. i have also been finishing up all the loose ends to get the exhaust to the coater. i decided to go ahead and coat the DP. i havent ordered the ex. brake yet, but i did get the Marmon flanges for it so i can get the ball rolling on the coating. anyhow, i called Interstate Turbo in denver. asked for a couple of 5" flanges and v-band clamps. give them the payment info and hope i dont get slaughtered. the whole pile was 80$ delivered and the clamps appear to be of better quality than the flange and clamp(single) set up i spent nearly 60$ on for the DP. the flanges have more material to work with and are of a heavier gauge. the real kicker was, i ordered them via telephone at 4:15p.m. yesterday. today at 10:30a.m. they were sitting on my workbench. fantastic. |

Re: 72 k20 project
Very nice. That was a great deal on the flanges especially with the clamps!

Re: 72 k20 project
Nice work. I've had MS flanges made in the past to be able to retain the stock compressor out let flange. It wasn't cheap though.

Re: 72 k20 project
It looks really nice! By the dust on the hood, it looks like the painter man was hoarding or holding out on you? And the wife will never know being in different states.

Re: 72 k20 project
Thanks!
i kind of gambled on the color. they didnt have any samples when i picked it, but as always this shop does great work, and the gamble was a pay off. i like black, but i was afraid if everything under the hood was black it would all start to disappear. this color goes well with the raw aluminum stuff and stays in the grey/black color palette but isnt another layer of black. it is 518 medium green. i think the 503 code was about the same thing, just earlier on the timeline. |

Re: 72 k20 project
needed to support my air compressor. the factory cummins stuff was far to bulky to fit. i designed something a little sleeker.
it was a dumb move to skip this step while the engine was out. did this one the hard way. bolted in. more flash photography exposed painting skillz one bolt goes in front to back, the other back to front. nice and tight without any loss of support. |

Re: 72 k20 project
Nice work Ryan! I love that coating as well. I wish I would have done that to mine now. I may have to start as the paint just doesn't look as nice as long as that should. That comp mount looks nice. The stock ones for sure are bulky.

Re: 72 k20 project
Looking good over there.
I like the grey P/C with the black. It does break up all the black as you said. Nice job on the mount.

Re: 72 k20 project
Thanks guys!
this has been on my list for a while. it was easy to ignore, but i finally got it checked off. the gusset for the upper PH mount. and the filler plate for the upper bag mounts. i also made an adapter out of some scrap i had collected. gotta get some more use out of this engine stand... i knew there was a demon in this trans when i bought it. it was priced at a fair or low core price, so all is well. you can see the busted teeth on the direct counter gear. the fluid is sparkly and the input is all ground up. i finally ordered this nest of copper. i will start the process of routing and planning on what i need where and all that. i still have many pieces of the electrical puzzle left to buy so it will be a slow game. |

Re: 72 k20 project
Very nice! Hurry up on the harness install. I need to do mine as well. The input being junk works out in your favor as you'll be getting a big cryo'd one anyway. Are you planning on adding the cast tail housing or leaving the aluminum one?

Re: 72 k20 project
Cryo'd eh?
yeah, i wasnt to bummed. l knew the input was goin away. i need to get into it and see what other hard parts i may need. i guess i will decide on the tail housing before i finish it. i flop back and forth a lot. |

Re: 72 k20 project
fiddled around while waiting on some parts and planning for some wiring stuff.
this all started because i need a place to mount a bunch of relays and extra wiring BS. then i decided to make these... it is a power steering reservoir. i still need to stick a return bung in it. and this is the recovery can for the coolant. back to work on the electrical stuff as soon as my box of supplies arrives. |
