That sounds like what I have been planning on doing on mine. I have concerns about the color matching. I understand red can be tricky unless you shoot it all together. I bet for my quality of bodywork it will be fine.

Thanks Mark, Yeah I found a pair on craigs, then a single. I really only need to replace one more and finish the rock guards. It can be used like it is now.

Re: 1969 Short Wide

I've been really busy on the project the last week or so. (Pictures soon), not much real progress but some is better than none. Wanted to share some trucks I've seen lately at my friend screamingchevypickup's shop:

These rides set the bar as high as you can go, It's really inspirational to see them completed.

Re: 1969 Short Wide

Here's what I've been working on, I made some sheetmetal mounts for my Vintage Air system. I really didn't like the ones that came with it. Next, I needed a bracket to mount my PCM up under the dash so I fabricated this one. It took me a few tries, and numerous hours, but I got one I'm happy with the outcome.

Vintage Air mounts, fabricated from 316 Stainless:

Shown mounted

PCM Bracket work, I made this piece first:

Here's where it's going to mount:

Made a cardboard templet:

Welded up the prototype:

Notice the weld is broken in this one:
Had to tweak it a little....

Final design:
Upper bracket machined from one piece

Started install:

Nut plate on the back side:

Finally Mounted:

Shown with connectors installed. It's still visible but not too bad. Once I route the wires on the modified harness I think it will work good.

This is what I started working on next:

Looks good Mike. Can you show some more pictures of the brackets and a/c unit mounted? Do these replace the "sure fit" bracket? This may help me with the building "block" I've had on my suburban.... Thanks,

Rob

Shoot another good coat and block with 320, wet block with 400 or 600 depending on the base, and HOSE that sucker! You guys' stuff all looks great!
I have heard good things about slick sand too. That's pretty much exactly how I did my panels. They seem to have turned out pretty good so. We will see when the paint cures.

Thanks Rob. I will have to get some pics when I get the V/A mounted back in the cab. This unit I'm using is pretty old. I have had it since 09 I think. I had to move around a little and the light brackets that came with it were just too flimsy. So I made these out of .06" stainless sheet stock.

Thanks Steve. We can always cock our heads under to look at it.
I almost forgot, there will be another bracket to secure it at the back side near the firewall. I'm sure it won't need it with the beefy size of the main bracket but just in case the vibrations stress the sheet metal we won't get cracked....

Are you going to be able to get your A/c ducting through there?

Yeah it's going to be tight, but it will route right up here if I planned it right:

Thanks, I know it's a little overkill but I've had this thought in my head for a while so I just had to try to make it. I have access to scrap aluminum too which is pretty handy. If I can't find the pieces I need I just pick them up on eBay. A real cheap source.

Re: 1969 Short Wide

Kyle had me a little worried so I double checked the A/C duct routing. A little tight with the cluster installed, but I believe it will work good.

Next I started prepping to paint the bottom of the bed and tubs:

Painted - single stage urethane cheap and easy:

Lined with Raptor liner:

It doesn't seem like that long ago your truck was at this point Mark.

Mike, it's great to see so much progress. All you lack is finishing up.

It was just this time last year if I remember right. He knocked it out quick. I hope to do the same. Finishing is the hard part.

Definitely like the raptor liner on the bottom side in these pics. Did you use this on the cab and front inner fenders as well?

What prep did you do?

Love what I am seeing on your thread!

Thanks for checking out my build. I apologize for the length in advance....HERE is where I did the cab floor. Notice I added some heat insulating spheres to the Raptor on the bottom of the cab floor. The inner fenders up front will get the plain black treatment. Also, for reference I reduced the Raptor on the bottom surfaces so it doesn't build so high. On the top surfaces it's reduced just not as much. It will spatter big chunks if you leave it just as mixed.

As far as prep goes, I used 220 grit on a DA sander where I could reach and the red 3m scotch brite everywhere else. The light gray primer is Matrix epoxy and the dark gray is Omni epoxy.

On the bed floor (top side) I painted it with the same bc/cc that I'm using everywhere else. I did this so there would be no issue with gray spots. I know now the tinted covers good enough to skip this step.

Re: 1969 Short Wide

Love the pcm mount! Work looks great- I gotta try that Raptor liner next time. Al's works good, but almost no open time, and a PITA to shoot with a hopper gun. The work Kyle did with it on Square peg and yours here has me convinced. Keep it up, it looks great!
