Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
Well, although it did cause headaches & an extra delay, it seems as if the clutch "emergency" has blown over....
Seems as if the initial measurements for the throwout bearing were taken off of the wrong point so it was incorrect... A new one is on the way as well as a new pushrod, so once that arrives all should be right with the world again! Sure wish Keven would'a been in charge of my truck all along so all this stuff could've probably been avoided!!! On a positive note, the Gaurd Dawg unit arrived today - seems as if they sent an updated model to replace the one they were supposed to repair. Once Keven verifies that the wiring set-up is the same as the other he can get it wired in. Start-up will have to wait until the trans is bolted back in place though.... |

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
IT'S ALIVE, IT'S ALIVE, IT'S ALIVE!!!! This is the quick email message I got from Trevor only a few minutes ago: "All I can say is NASCAR! That thing sounds nasty! Keven only fired it for a second. Video tomorrow or Monday!" Still awaiting my full weekly update from Keven with pics, but man does this end my week on a GREAT note!!!!! |

Trust me, when I am there at the shop there will be some requisite tire destruction!!! Luckily the old tires & wheels are on there so no loss...

This is a really nice truck that you are building. I always tell my wife that I want to build an older truck like yours that is more reliable than any new truck rolling off the dealership. Can't wait to see you get it driving.

Appreciate that man! Yeah, I managed to convince my Wife I should build one - think she might not allow it knowing what she knows now, but to late now!!! Hehe

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
Front push bar is fully welded up - would take something pretty substantial to damage this thing!!! Still needs powder coat & will look like AWESOME!

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
This is the toolbox from Weather Guard we ended up going with. I like the one button opening & it's pretty well built & even matches the back pretty darn well out of the box!!! Keven's still got to bolt in down & all that this week.

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
This is how the engine bay looks at the moment. Kinda dirty & still needs some wiring clean-up & shortening/covering & organizing. We ended up ditching the Wilwood master cylinder since it wouldn't build pressure.... This one doesn't look as good, but is MUCH better than the stocker & works PERFECTLY!!!
On the plus side it's cheap & available almost anywhere if I ever need to replace it. Keven's got to adjust the brake lines & proportioning valve postition to finalize it. |

This is the slick little oil cooler line adapter Keven ended up using - it's from Lingenfelter Performance & it's a VERY nice piece!!!!!!

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
My gauge cluster set in place. Everything works so far, just have to dial in the parameters for the oil pressure & water temp gauges in the Mast software to get them reading to match the readout when the computer is connected.
The speedo will require a new gear to be made once we can get it on a dyno. |

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
Keven added 12V outlets on the back of the center console as well as some heated seat switches to match the ones for the front. The seat heaters will be added when the upholstery is getting done.

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
This is the transfer case shifter arm mount that Keven ended up fabricating. The one they bought simply was too weak & bent after a few shifts, so he made one that isn't EVER gonna bend on me - plus it's got spherical rod ends!!!

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
sweet man! keeps gettin better all the time.
over here in Europe those push bars are prohibited, because they can seriously damage/injure pedestrians when hit by a car. Otherwise we would have mounted one of those too...

And here's the real payoff!!! This freakin' motor pulls like a horse in every gear!!! I broke the wheels loose all the way through 3rd gear on the freeway..... The motor was broken in on Mast's engine dyno, so there wasn't any need for me to baby it thankfully! This was a pure clutch dump - no brakes!!! Sounds cuts out a bit since the iPhone mic doesn't work well with that much noise... There is an exhaust system on there, but it's just a temporary one so it isn't completely obnoxious... |

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
These would'a been MUCH longer had I not been quickly running out of real estate directly in front of me.....
The torque arms they built for it make it go straight as an arrow in whatever direction I pointed it!!!!! I haven't had a smile this big on my face in quite a while!!!! |

Here's a video of Beau working on getting my gauges calibrated. The Mast ECM is GREAT - it allows you to customize the output for your specific gauges so it's totally universal & can even do CAN set-ups! |

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
Congrats on getting to drive it. It sounds wicked for sure! It'll be fun to drive around, and it sounds like it has no problem at all pulling up the rpm range!
