Re: SkinnyG's '61 Apache

Haven't been working on the truck at all over spring break. Largely doing things for family.

I did, however, get a pretty thorough clean on, got the '61 over to the hoist, and finally found the top of my work bench.

Re: SkinnyG's '61 Apache

Picked up some 8th Gen Civic Coupe door seals, as I'm not delighted with the fit of the Precision door seals I installed.

Also picked up parts for SkinnyKid2's car; he just got his learner's.

Re: SkinnyG's '61 Apache

Moved over to the hoist:

The Precision door seals look better, but the doors close with the Honda Civic seals. I'm probably going to be ok with it over time.

Hooked up the shifter.

Poked around in the shop, tidied, and made a list of what I think I need to finish things.

Re: SkinnyG's '61 Apache

First, we need to go UP from the unmuffler:

Then I'll need a 6" straight to connect to the left side of this, up over the frame, and into the fenderwell ahead of the wheel. Man, this took forever.

A tricky job, beautiful welds,
they will conjure it up in the truck with their skills.

Re: SkinnyG's '61 Apache

Yes, especially since my horizontal bandsaw blade is not designed for Stainless Steel, and I had to cut about ten of the pie-cuts with an angle grinder by hand. New blades coming.

For those who have forgotten (grin) - this is at the motor:

Re: SkinnyG's '61 Apache

I have a stupid question for you, why do gas jobs need a waste gate and diesel don't?? nice work by the way should be a fun truck to drive. that pipe work is awsome job

Re: SkinnyG's '61 Apache

If the turbo is properly sized that you don't overspeed the turbo, you don't need a wastegate. That might be a small turbo, relatively speaking. A small turbo will spool quickly, but you'd get more power from a bigger turbo - and then need a wastegate.

Re: SkinnyG's '61 Apache

Definitely need another band clamp - there is no way this psycho corkscrew of a tailpipe can be one piece and installable.

Re: SkinnyG's '61 Apache

Line Lock arrived. Good, as I'm going to be doing the brake lines soon. More of a novelty than required, but I've never had one before, and kinda want one.

Except I did have to cut a bit off to actually fit the filter. Just.

Back on the fuel filler, with the vent to make filling much easier:

Been looking for these honda door seals, most I am finding have pins for retention, not the pinch style, would you have specified part numbers by chance…
Thanks….

Re: SkinnyG's '61 Apache

I did not order these new, I took them form 8th Gen Civics at the junk yard. Get passenger side ones, as they are less worn.

Brake Brakes are plumbed from the Wilwood proportioning valve back.

You have GOT to get one of these:

Re: SkinnyG's '61 Apache

Fuel and brake line clamps made from some sort of plastic I bought two years ago.

Four large ones, and that one wee one on the right. Air lines and wiring dangling:
