Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Hoping to cheat and go to the end of the thread to see pics of a Giant blazer. Didn't happen but now I'm lucky enough to say Good News!!! Congrats to her and you.

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Well, sorry again, but we are off to Illinois again this weekend for more treatment. Good news is it's working and things look good! Been busy working on my daughter's car-trying to keep it running!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Well I am back. Things with the wife are going ok. It is time to get going on this build. I have almost all the replacement metal panels and etc to shore this k5 up. I really need to find someone near me that has experience welding in this stuff the right way. Got to get all the door gaps and stuff close, you know. Not going to be a show truck--but I want it done right. Got a little money stashed for this, but have to be careful. Anybody know anyone close to me that can help me out with the final welding/etc? I do have a way to transport the K5 to within reasonable miles from home. Anybody?

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
I did my own just to see if I could. The biggest problem is keeping everything lined up. I left the top on so the door gaps wouldn't move when I cut out the rockers. Just have to make sure to Measure measure measure. And the worst part is once you start cutting out the rust, you usually find more underneath you didn't know was there. Glad treatments are helping your wife.

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Well, here we go again. My wife is feeling well enough to go back to work tomorrow, if just for one day a week, for now. Means I will be getting up and working on the pole barn cleanup and starting on the K5 every day!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
I'm still here guy's, just the k5 build has pretty much been put on hold for now. Dealing with the wife's illness and work takes up too much time. Really would like to get started on the metal work though, but funds go everywhere else these days. Snowing here today, here comes another northern Mi winter!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Upgraded the K5's charging system with stuff from Jegs. 100 amp 1 wire alternator, high amp alt wiring kit, 50 amp fuse block with extra fuses, and 24" ground wire kit. Just need to pick up a new v belt and get it all installed!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Well here it is, working on getting a list of what I have for the welding process. All the parts needed will be listed soon, as I have many of them here allready. I just am not sure what is the proper order of installation. I just need to get going on this so I can take my wife wheeling before it's too late. She is doing good, but I have to stop dragging my feet on this and get it mobile enough to take her for a good ride!

Can you keep that barn warm enough to work in?

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Gotta question about the vin # on my K5. Understand the first 6 digits, but not the last the last 6. They are 145036, what do they mean? I thought they meant the number built that year, but makes no sense? Anybody? It is a 1970 K5 4x4 w/v8 4speed.

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Last six is production number. So that yours is the 145036 vehicle coming off the line. I'm guessing it's all trucks as cars would have a different vin.

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Ok, I get it. I just didn't think they produced over 14,ooo K5's in 1970. All the info I have seen was around 11,ooo. If this is true, mine must have been made near the end of the 1970 run?

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
That was the complete number up to yours of all trucks coming off the assembly Line at that plant in pretty sure. Not just k5s. According to the site I posted above, there where 12422 blazers made that year. 985 2 wheel and 11527 4 wheel drive.

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Well guy's I am back! Wife is doing real good. The weather is getting better here. Got some work done today. A lot of grinding and drilling, and pounding. But I got the last two rivets out of the drivers side rear shock mount. Got a replacement mount prepped and ready to go in with new bolts and hardware. After this step, we are back on the body bushing stage!

Shocking news! I got the 4th shock mounted last night after work. Got the drivers side rear mount replaced and all four are good to go. Feels good!
