By the time Dennis finishes his truck it will make mine look so bad I might just trade it in the next time we have a cash for clunkers deal going on.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
Josh you crack me up!
thanks alot for the compliments guys! it really means alot... in fact with out everyone ive met and became friends with here i really doubt she would be turning out like this. big thanks to a good friend Billy(draggin86) for putting in work today with me. had an awesome day man and i learned A TON!! we got the floor pan in!! i'm not gonna bore y'all with too many details but i will say it was an all day affair and it takes alot of work and patience to make it a perfect fit. the final result is beautiful. fit like a glove. looks just like factory. all butt welded in! 1st pics i POR15 inside the rocker panel as far as i could, next was coated everything with weld through primer. here's the 1st pics...

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
^^ we used 2 floors to make the one... tons of grinding and thinking! notice the custom support to match the original right above the cab nut and brace! i love that... (thanks again for taking the time to do that Billy!) at that time in the day i was ready to say screw it!

thanks Joe! thanks John! good luck on yours man... just take your time well i finished it up this morning... finished grinding the welds, seam sealer on the inside and threw on a light coat of primer just to see how it looks. the bottom of the cab will be undercoated and the inside floorboard will get body filler on the seams and painted. was thinking about undercoating the cab floor and then painted but i dont know yet. here's the final pics of the floor pan install...

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
Yeah, it looks great! You could also just put some sound deadening material on the inside floorboard which would hide any abnormality, and reduce road noise. Just a possibility.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
Looks good as hell man. There is one more weld that would of saved you guys some time. You could of done plug welds and grind the weld flat. But all in all that looks good man. I have 4 weeks left out here so if you need help on your days off im down like james brown man.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
not sure what you mean... we did about 25 plug welds. all along the rocker and braces.
if you mean lap the floor in and plug weld that... that is not the type of build i'm doing. maybe if i was rushed for time on a daily driver. maybe....

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
yeah for sure butt welding is where its at to get that seamless look.. less seam sealer and crap too! then we just plug welded the drilled out spot welds.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
no not just overlap the panels hell no. ahaha. You could of mad a channel that had a notch on it so the top would be welded to the floor and the floor pan to the bottom of the channel and still be even with the original floor. Alot more work but would be stronger. But all in all you guys got down man. You ever figure anything out with your doors going to one piece windows or anything like that?
