Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

Worked on the truck a little today, took my front clip apart so I could get the fenders stripped down to see what I really have. Looks like I have a little rust work to do but not as bad as I thought. I was thinking about taking them down to bare metal by blasting them and fixing the rust spots or I could just fix the couple of rust spots and clean up the surface rust and rock the Patina but with new trim and emblems. I would need to figure out how to get my doors to match since I completely reskinned them and they are no longer the original color.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

The colors look great man, I'm torn between the orange and blue on mine but either way I dont think we could go wrong. I'll probably go with orange, but my grille will be 2001~ish Z06 Corvette Speedway White. It's kinda more vanilla color but you almost have to see it beside pure white to even tell it's not really white. Solid hugger with a white grille section (no white top) is sharp too!

Thanks buddy, I'm like a kid playing with a new toy. Only this one lets me try out a million different color combos for my truck. Just what I needed right at least you have yours narrowed down to 2 colors, I'm stuck on like 5-6 different color combos.

Hey Bennett, does that paint program have an option for a cowl hood and different grilles?

It does have the option for a cowl hood but doesn't quite look right to me. It is a single vehicle program so there wasn't an option that I could see with respect to changing the grill. For the 68 you can turn the grill trim on and off and also change the color of the trim.

Yeah for the price of the program I think it is worth it, especially if you are torn between different paint combos like I am. If you already know exactly what you want then it probably wouldn't be worth it.

Well, my thing is, I know what I want, I just want to see if it is going to look as good in reality as it does in my head. Plus, I can try a few different combos, it looks like a lot of fun to play with!

Those fenders look pretty nice from where I'm sitting. Wish I would have had the extra cash for that group buy. Those tanks are really nice.

Thanks Mike the fenders are decent but my problem is my complete lack of metal working skills. If I had your skills I would fix them. I don't know what I'm going to do yet.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

Got a lot of odds and ends done this weekend on the truck and my brother finished welding up the cab for me. Also tacked my rear bag mounts in after setting my frame at ride height and centering the rear. Quick pic of the Porterbuilt firewall filler finally done

Thanks guys, I can't take the credit, my brother did the welding. I just stood there until he was done Now I get to grind it down and start the bodywork. Good news is now I should be able to get the cab back on by the end of August.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

Got some work done on the truck today. Finally drilled out my spindles for the rack and pinion. Now I have to shorten the threads on the rack a little, but I'll get that another day I also cleaned up and primered my grill shell, center support and hood latch. Once they were dry I bolted them up to the core support to get a look. I should have the cab and front clip bolted back on in a couple of weeks.

Thanks Rob, haven't had much time to work on it the past two weeks as the wife and I are prepping for the move to our new house. Hopefully after we move in on Labor Day weekend I can get some work done on it. I'm hoping I can get a day to work on it this weekend and maybe get some loose ends tied up.
