A trick I use on the giude coat is lacquer spray can. It sprays very thin and light so it gets a little in all the lows, pinholes, and such. Is cheaper than 3M dust and designated spray guide coats.

A little something as promised. Lining up the moldings is pretty hard even with the factory manual. The lower moldings were already drilled on the front and cab. The upper moldings were already drilled on the bed. The lower moldings on the bed will be easy because they follow the body line. The uppers on the doors can be located because of the cut out for the lock cylinder. Whatever height off the body line on the rear edge of the door is what you can use for the front according to the manual. The manual is confusing because it doesn't give measurements referencing the body line, it measures from under the rocker; which on my truck is very uneven. The pinch weld was never designed to be perfectly level. The front of the door could be used for the rear edge of the fender measurement, but from there the body line reference goes away. I am too afraid to drill out for the top molding on the fender for fear of having the molding rising or falling in relation to the rest of it. I am going to have to have it all assembled and then place the upper fender molding to make sure it will be straight. If I can't drill for the upper molding, I can't paint my white stripe because the end of the molding is short on the front and the paint line shows for the first inch. It has to line up with the tip of the molding to look right. So..... I will have to have the truck almost finished before I can paint the fenders white. I will be able to go ahead and paint the white everywhere else.

Drew- I know you have already received many compliments, add mine to the list- beautifully and vigoriously done. I am a newby to the site so I had join to post a question. I promise I will keep my future post shorter. I am currently remodeling my 67 C10. My A/C had been something that I have not figured out until I read your build. Thanks for the good idea. What year was the donor A/C unit pulled from? How hard was it to get in there and any tricks you didn't mention? I wonder if I could find a unit that is all concealed behind the fire wall like yours but out of a smaller vehicle that might fit easier. But, one of my big questions is about the intake for the box. It points straight up under the cowl. On the early 2000s this is fine because the hood covers that part of the cowl, thus rain fall could not come verticle nor off the hood into the a/c intake. However, on our truck the rain comes up the hood and into the slits in the cowl cover, and verticle drops can come right in. Since the blower on yours is directly below the intake, I would assume that you would not want any water in the box because it all would be channeled and sucked right to the electric blower motor. I saw you raised it up so that no rain could come from the slits from most of the cowl, but what about the part of the cowl cover that is open and above the opening for the a/c box?

You are correct that I haven't fully explained everything, the cowl cover will expose about 3 inches of the intake. I am planning on gluing/seam sealering a black plastic panel to the bottom of the cowl grill - covering the first set of grilles - after painting. Some kind of flat black that won't show up too much. This will also fully hide all of the crummy looking butchery that I performed. Knowing I required this panel that would hide everything from view, I went ahead and slathered the whole area in seam sealer. I will seal the black plastic cover on 3 sides and leave the end towards the grilles open to let whatever water sits on my plastic panel drip off.
One trick I may not have mentioned was that I unbolted the sides of the the dash panel and pulled the dash/rotated it to let me get the unit up in there. Once it was in I needed to trim a little on the bottom edge of the dash (shown earlier) to be able to bolt the dash back. I also trimmed random little plastic nipples and tabs off of the outside of the ac unit. Useless little manufacturing protrusions that added a half inch to the depth of it.

You might want to put a screen under the cowl before you put it back on. I think I got mine from classic parts or LMC. It's very tiring digging soured leaves out of there every Spring.

Your work is great. is't there supposed to be a flap or some type of cover over the fresh air intake in the cowl? it's been a while but I remmeber having cars come in with water leaks and some times the flaper would stick or have trash around it and would not fully close. What keeps water from going down that opening and into the cab?
