Email I just got. I have a 3500 stall and my motor is a 385.

You’re running a gigantic camshaft. It’s going to be a process to get it all done properly. Try raising the idle speed even more, and opening the idle screws. That cam should be used with a 4000+ rpm stall converter. If it’s lugging down too hard, it’ll be hard to keep it running with anything with that cam, but cranking open the screw and setting a higher idle speed should help.

If cranking takes opening the throttle, reduce the Crank Fuel.

Keep trying adjustments to suit your motor. It’s hard to make something work for a stock 289 engine and a monster cam 383 with the same settings, so, give it more time before throwing in the towel.

Hell I forgot my new dizzy is extremely nice. Never ran a Pertronix but sure is nice. Has that new HEI III module with multispark and a digital rev limiter. Money well spent.

To lazy to read back can you use timing control with the Pertronix? Do you run mech only or w/vac advance?

Well thought about taking PTO today but I went into work. Left the guys at the house. Everything got installed again made a few tweaks on the install. And when I left it still had not started. So when they let me know something I will let you all know.

Jesus christ Rod, I would of tossed in the towel after the first4 hours....then I would be like you and try it again.
I'm like you, I won't give up till I tried everything and then some more. Which sounds like having those guys come over is the "then some more".

Lol. Swamp the towel is wet and rolled up ready to be thrown. It's funny the stuff people say that have never seen the system. This is why they did away with tbi. This software is cheap. The handheld is cheap. Why did they do this. This thing needs a carb not tbi. That some comments I heard last night. So hope it works if not I just want to send it back and get my money back.

Actually thinking about it, why not toss it back and then wait for the port injection system to come out?
Not sure on the price of the port injection but hopefully it'll be cheaper than the other brands.
I thought of it for myself but I would have to take my intake and drill holes for the injectors or buy a intake from Edelbrock that already has ports drilled for their system http://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-35310, either way its more than I want to spend.
Now I know FiTech is probably making one with intake for the Chevy motors so it should be easy to install.

They are. But if I can't get this working I am done with EFI on this truck. Good carb a AFR gauge some jets and extensions good to go. Lol. I am at the point I have put so much money into my truck that irbid time to drive and enjoy it. Which I was until I bought the FiTech and put it on. If I could just get the FiTech to work I will be happy.

What puzzles me is what makes your install unique that you are having these problems and not a lot of others? I hope you get it sorted out and find it's something simple or overlooked. Great idea having a group of guys in the know helping you gettin it done!

I keep being told by FiTech that it is the idle adjustment and the crank fuel and the IAC when engine is at temp. So I keep adjusting them per instruction. With same results. And I am puzzled also. What makes my setup different that I am having to go into the systems and make so many adjustments. Carbs are a little more forgiving than EFI but damn. I should not have to make that many adjumenst then that throws the self learning out the window. But that statement is misleading itself for these type of setups. Never had a issue before with a carb in this motor 3 different carbs. And put efi and everything goes to hell.

Warm idle is @ 1000 in park

I asked for a new unit. No dice. They got mine tested said it was good sent it back. They made adjustments to the tune and fine tuned it said it was running great on the vehicle they put it on. Told me to bolt it on and try it out. Even with the adjustments they made still doing the same. Roll into throttle for start and won't idle in gear. I am going to bump the idle up more and see if that helps. I told them in a email that this weekend will be nice in the 60's sunny. So if it does not get fixed this weekend monday I will be getting a RMA# for a return and refund.

This is just me playing devil's advocate, but, when I saw that you were going to run this self learning kit on a (I think you said) 650hp small Block, I figured there was no way it was going to work out. I'm sure you can get it to work, but with that big of a cam, that crazy of a motor, and this fairly simple unit, it's going to take some doing to get it to run right and especially start right. I Will say that it is entirely possible that yours has some unique problems. I would personally want to maybe even try installing it on a different car/truck with smaller cam and hp to see how it runs with that. That to me would be a good way of determining if it's your setup, or the unit.

Playing devil's advocate again would be to remember that yes, this unit is cheap. It's the cheapest on the market. How do you think they got it to be so cheap? It's probably not going to have the quality that some of the more expensive units like the holley terminator system does such. But those are $2500+!

If you really wanted the absolute best injection for your truck, a fully custom tuned multi port injection system would be best in my opinion. I would personally assume that my truck would need an entire day with a good dyno tuner to get it to run reasonably well constantly.

Backing up a bit, again, I do think you will get yourself dialed in. But I think it's going to require the frustration of it not being as simple as you thought originally. In fact, far from simple.

So that's my opinion. And I give it only in hopes of it bringing back from the edge and remembering that this is a hobby. It's fun but sometimes insanely frustrating and you just have to get through it in as enjoyable a Manor as possible.
