We're supposed to be in 105 range this week. I'm feeling a cabin trip coming. It's supposed to be in the eighties there.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

well I been trying to get most of the in-cab stuff installed before I start pulling wires...(uhhgg I dread that)..
so today I put the 2 halves of my heater box together and the plan was to get it installed...when I got to looking I realized I needed to go ahead and hook up the cowl vent control cables..once the heater is in, theres no way to get to the one on the pass side..so I got the cables in and went to my box of gal ziplock bagged parts to get the little clamps that hold the cables in place..found them...and when I did there was a gal bag with big sharpie writing on it that said ( glove box latch and parts)..big as day...yep the latch that I have been looking for ,for the last 3weeks was right there in front of me...been thru that box 4or5 times and coudnt find them
so I got all exicted about finding it and not wanting to misplace that latch again, I installed it before I could lose it....again
the glove box doors on these trucks fit like crap..and always have..so I'm gonna make some shims and try to get it to line up better..i can push up on the bottom of the door and it lines up near perfect , so maybe some shims will work
the heater will have to wait another day...sounds funny installing a heater in this kind of 90+weather..

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Well we had a cold spell blow threw today..the shop was a nice cool 96deg today....yea!!
Ain't nothing like laying under a dash with sweat running into your eyes
I made a couple of shims to try and get the glove box to line up better...wound up using a 1/8" shim on the pass side glove box support, and that got it close...then I bent the hinge a slight amount ...I've got it about as close as its gonna get..the dash contours dont match exactly so I had to hit it in the middle ground...
Also got the heater in and had the bright idea I was gonna use acorn nuts on the firewall side..didnt realize the studs were fine thread...shoulda known..I'm not gonna use the old extremely rusty star washers so I'll have to pick some up along with some new nuts..

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Looking really good!

Can you put a window a/c unit in? I have a large unit for a 1200sqft space I got at Lowe’s about 10 years ago and every summer I stick in in the garage window. I have a large four car garage and put a big fan in front of the a/c unit To push the cold air further inside and it takes 10 or 15 degrees off the temp. I could put another one on the other end of the garage and it would probably get cold in there! I know your shop is much larger but 96 is brutal! Just a thought...

Scott, I had a window unit I tried a couple yrs ago, and unless you stood right in front of it you couldnt tell any difference...my biggest issue is the useless insulation that I have...I think if I get that issue taken care of itll help more than anything..

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Not really much of a update..just getting a few minutes here and there..
Installed the trans tunnel...what a job that was ..all the orig clips were screwed up, so I would up using socket head countersunk bolts with nuts and washers under the truck
Not a 1 man job, but I got it done
Got the heater box and control cables installed and ran the heater hoses ..I used a old air heater bypass valve.
The old control valve is inside the heater box..I installed this one under the hood..so itll be easier to service if needed..I was disappointed I couldnt find one in all brass..this one is plastic..

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Also finally got a block of time when it wasnt 99 deg to try out the new black widow HTE paint gun..
1st impressions are this is a very nice gun..I resprayed the hood and radiator support..each coat I put down looked very slick..so it should take only minimal sanding and buffing...hopefully this time i won't burn thru the paint..
