Im not MIA , but my shop time has been limited. I have had family in from out of state for an extended visit and my daughter and son in law just moved to a house so I gave them a hand with that.

I will be back on this build this weekend after my family heads home.

After having family for an extended stay, you'll probably need some "truck time"!

Re: 85 GMC Sierra "Scarlett"

Time to get her ready for her next date. Scarlett will be at c10s in the park
American Racing has had a conflict in scheduling so they will not be there. Instead she will be on display in another vendors booth to be revealed soon.
If you havent made plans to attend C10s in the Park, do it now.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra "Scarlett"

Even as a one day show, not a big terrible thing...a couple could sight see afterwards. I'm sure there's alot to see & do. We've done that a time or two in KC during the All Truck Nats when it was downpouring.

The event is in Waxahachie, TX which is a true small Texas town complete a town square and clock tower. There will be an after party on the square with live music.

The town has grown considerably in the past few years so there are plenty of accommodations as well as eating and drinking establishments. If you need to fly in, Dallas is nearby with a major airport.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra "Scarlett"

The countdown has begun for C10s in the Park. With my family visit behind me and a few pressing obligations taken care of, it's time to get busy wrapping up loose ends.

There are a few things that got put off in my rush to wrap up for Lonestar Throwdown and I want to fix as many as possible.
The A/C system was never recharged. I need to install a coolant recovery and windshield washer tank. The temp gauge isn't working now. I'm sure there are more that I'm forgetting so I will make a punch list.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra "Scarlett"

First things first though. I had an issue with the hood latch cable that needs to be addressed. I ordered a new cable and latch from Classic Industries.

They carry a reproduction cable assembly and latch mechanism that looks original. Unfortunately the latch mech was junk.
I spent an hour trying to fix a captured nut that wasn't installed correctly before going back to the original latch.

I had blasted and painted it previously, so I focused on cleaning the pivot points. Everything was thoroughly cleaned and lubed. The OEM mech was installed with the new release cable and it worked like new once again.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra "Scarlett"

With the hood opening properly I could focus on another urgent issue. The front brakes had started grinding badly.

We had replaced the stock D52 calipers with Wilwood D52 double piston upgrades and something was not right. It seemed as if a caliper was sticking and the pads weren't bedding properly.
I pulled the drivers front as it seemed to be the source of the issue. Take a look at what I discovered and see if you see the problem.

I put eveything back together, and the brakes are working great now. I went for a short cruise at dusk and enjoyed the great feeling of a succesful night in my shop.

I would love to say it wasnt me, but I cant be sure that it was Chris. We had the calipers off and on several times while mocking up and routing lines so its hard to remember who did what last.
In our defense, the inner pads dont have spring clips like OEM pads to hold them in place. It takes three hand to hold everything and start the pins in. I'm guessing that one of the dozen times the rear pad fell out during installation it got flipped around.

The good news is the truck hasn't been driven far so the rotor manged to survive. I need to resurface it, but its still usable.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra "Scarlett"

I spent Saturday in the shop working on the hood latch and release. I still have more to do so I will share that later.
Since I was at a stall point with that, I decided to work in the steering wheel. Chris Plump from American Racing had a one off steering wheel made to match the #vn506 wheels. I recieved it right before LST and quickly installed it before the show. Unfortunately no time was available to wire the horn button.

I wanted to make the horn functional so i pulled the wheel to see what was needed. While it was off I decided to dye the leather wrap to match my interior color. With the wheel blown apart I went one step further. Since the VN506 had a custom brushed center, why not make the steering wheel match.

Of course it sounds simple enough. Grab a fresh pad of Scotch Brite and scuff it down. That's all good except getting the brush even is not easy. I have a couple of hours invested but I like the results so far. I will add satin clear to seal it once done.
