Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!
Just spent $500 of the new $1000 raise... refinanced the house to 15years, got 3.75% and will save about $150K in the long run... I was at 4.5% but the refi will save another $20K in 15 years...
If you have a mortgage it's the best time to look into a refi, best rates since the 60's....

Thanks to the Army's wonderful Human Resources Command the results of my promotion board has been on hold... Should have taken 120 days (which is BS) and now at 180 days... that's our wonderful "system"....

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!
so I am getting back on track... promotion paperwork finally came in, took 90 days longer than usual due to upcoming cutbacks...
My packet is heading out of the state to DC for final approval, should pin on major by the end of the month now... thank god.. As for the truck, my new plan for bed wood is Black Walnut. I can buy the rough cut boards for under $100 and then use the rest for a new table saw. I'll have a buddy plane it down and in the end it will cost less than an Oak board kit, plus i'll have a new table saw... Thoughts?

I like it!!!
It should be tougher and last longer than oak too.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!
I think it's a great idea. Save money on bed wood, get a new saw you can use on other projects, and have another part of the truck you can say you built.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!
picked up my bed wood tonight... local guy that deals in local hardwoods out of his garage... lots of cool stuff... Kiln dried...
This will be enough to do a short fleetside and was cheap... how cheap???? wait for it... $45 time to cut it, plane it, groove it and make it pretty... Black Walnut looks nice!!!!

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!
Hopefully... i'm gonna have my cabinet guy give me a quote to take it from this to sanded and ready for stain... If it's reasonable then i'll let him do it, if not then i'll look at getting a new table saw and just have him plane it down for me...

FYI, if you have a 2004 F-150 then you need to buy a 2005 brake hose for it... and only Car Quest carries them in stock!!!! (without going to Ford that is) what a PITA... Got home Thursday and my front left wheel was smoking, guess my caliper wasn't realeasing all the way, Easier and cheaper just to put new parts on and be done... THis will be the last F@rd I ever buy...

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!
woohoo, finally got my official orders today....
nice size raise to go with it... too bad the Army won't pay me the 18 months ($18K) of back pay that they gipped me on... so be it.. Basement almost finished now so this winter might yield some work on 'ole Money Pit.

Glad it finally went through. Congrats Major
Great buy on the walnut. I'm thinking about making my bed wood as well. Did you find a set of dimensions to use for cutting the wood to the right width & shape? My boards are in such bad shape they aren't usable for accurate measurements to reproduce.
