Re: 58 GMC Project

Cal, You have a Camaro subframe. Can you tell me if any modifications were made to the inner fenders to clear the upper A-arm towers? I am useing a 79 camaro sub that I just finished the prep work for and getting ready to weld into place.

By the way, This has been a great thread for builders. Love that truck!

Just stopping into say, I am alive and well. Still checking to see what you are up to from time to time. Love the Video! I have made small progress here and there, not given up the dream. I can't remember any time in my life that I was so busy! I am still here though, I will update my thread one of these days. Thanks for the inspiration!

Re: 58 GMC Project

I loved the part where the wheels look like they are spinning backwards in slow motion. All due respect, I wish the video didn't have the music so that the exhaust could be heard when you get on it rollin'. Badass either way. Thanks for the eye candy. David

Windnoise? Do the one piece windows make extra buffit (air) buffeting noise?

No, sticking the camera out the window and driving at 40 mph. makes a nasty sound.

I just spent the last three hours reading this build thread from start to finish and all I have to say is FNA! Your truck is by far in my top 3 all time favs! From grill to tail lights everything is perfect. I have a feeling it will be in an up coming magazine issue for sure

Re: 58 GMC Project

I do have a question for you I dont think anyone touched on. Did you run into any vacuum problems for your power brakes? I ordered a kit and once I got it i checked my vacuum and the engine did not pull enough for the kit

Thanks for the comments! I had no problem with vacuum for the brake booster. I know if you’re running a radical cam your motor can have low vacuum maybe that was the problem you had.

These sure do help those problems.. I had to run one of these on my Big Block Challenger. Almost no vacuum at idle with the big solid lift but after this ..perfect brakes...

Re: 58 GMC Project

I'm not sure if I missed missed it and all of the postings, but could we get a breakdown of the cost for this project? I am initiating a custom panel truck project myself and would love to know where and how much I am going to spend...

How about a breakdown per category? Engine/suspension/wiring/paint/etc. etc. and let us know where the range of costs in money and time. Where could you have saved time or money if you were not building the show machine? Where would it have cost differently if you weren't doing the work yourself?

Please, write up as much as you can as the project you've done is truly unique and it would be invaluable for everyone else starting one!

Thanks in advance, Mark

In a nutshell, here's the break down.

Over $45k into the truck.
$12k in body & paint.
$3k in interior.
$7k in the motor & trans.
2.5 years to build in my garage & a dozen busted knuckles.
