Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

and after all that if I had to do it all over again I would not waste my time pulling it apart I would just cut it right at the join of the two cylinders, in order to expose the shaft

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

so I figure I better mount the brake booster and the steering column before going any further with that Prius power steering motor, so before doing that we got to tear the brake bracket apart so that we can media blast it and powder coat it, everything has to come apart, but I think it will be worth it especially when we go diving under the dash to do some wiring

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

if anyone knows where to get quality bushings for the brake pedal assembly please let me know, but please do not mention Dorman

I installed Dorman junk in my '74 and those things did not last 4 months let alone 40 years like the originals, am I right fellas?

Greg, there is a YouTube on improving the HF sand blast pot. Mine works better with the changes. If I could remember them I'd tell you, but I've got oldtimers disease.

Nice work by the way.

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

so with the help of some gentle persuasion we liberated one of the lugs from my original bracket which I hacked up to fit the Prius power steering motor under the dash

... and I bugger welded it to match

I was in a welding mood so I repaired these doo dads

I come to the conclusion that when you buy a truck of this generation it ought to should come with a MIG welder, what say you? do you agree? ha ha

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

I followed Busty with great enthusiasm as I have a 55 first series nicknamed Elvin and was doing a similar build. Just about the time you finished my enthusiasm started to wane then lo and behold you started this EV conversion. I am 100% in to convert my 55.1 to EV. I cant wait to see this on the road. Well I guess I will have to but the journey is well worth it.
Thx for your great commentary and descriptions.
Dave.

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

some of you may be familiar with this little gem, and how much fun they are to clean the grease out of and rebuild, this one only had 4 quarts of 50 year old grease in it

... man bro you can take a shot of tequila out of that thing now it's so clean (plus alcohol kills germs)

"pray tell" I luv it, ha ha

why it's the Generals version of one of these universal steering column joints, but the genius of it is, is that although it is fugly it is greasable meaning serviceable, meaning it will last 50 years instead of 5
