Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

The advantage you have with the 87 is the tanks have the bowl/baffle, and you already have sending units with fuel pumps. You would still need to swap fuel pumps, tank switch valve, and fuel lines. The TBI runs on < 15psi, the LS engines run at 58psi, so the TBI lines won't hold up.

Love the truck BTW! Fred was the first thing I thought of when I saw it. I removed the push bumper things and the bed rails the day after I got it home!

BTW, you know about what I knew when I started my swap.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

Thanks for the offer! I installed them for about 10 years too. I did put a keyless entry on it over my Christmas vacation. But I don't really have a use for a remote starter on this truck. It lives in a heated/air conditioned shop 24/7, and won't be driven if there is snow, or even a chance of snow. I do need to get one on my wife's car though. That's just a matter of finding time.

But like the others said, a write up would be an excellent addition to the FAQ section!

Fred really looking good! Bob! Very cool!

My Blazer is coming along good. Just had a busy holiday season at the Butcher Shop and no time to work on it. The engine harness is finished and now moving to the chassis harness.

Props to you buddy, you pulled off one hell of a build!

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

I can do a write up but,, it really depends on the alarm module you get since some already come with all the pre wire relays and others you have to mod, also depends on the vehicle you going to installl to... but I will do a write up to our truck models soon...

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

FINALLY getting around to swapping the speedo. I was going to wait until I was ready to paint the interior, but what the hey. Got it in an everything works. Swapped out all the bulbs with 168's also, slightly brighter that the stockers.

Also swapped steering wheels with my 70. It's the smaller Camaro/Monza type. So Fred's identity crisis continues, as this one has a bowtie on it!

Pics later, I need to run to the hardware store now. I snapped a couple of the plastic studs off that hold the outer vent on.

You will need the cluster from a 90-91 Suburban, Blazer or dually. Those used an electric speedo. The PCM from the LS will have one wire that will go to the new speedo, and the hookup is simple. I had swapped out with a Blazer cluster when I did the swap, but the trip odometer didn't work. I had picked up another speedo with a working trip odometer and it showed fewer miles, but had been putting it off and finally did it today.

So.. I got the "new" speedo installed, and it works, trip odometer too. Also got the other steering wheel on, and I like it MUUUUCH better.

I had to get up in the attic of the shop, and found the new deep trim rings that I originally bought for my 68. So I pulled the OEM shallow ones off and put the new deep ones on. It looks real good, and adds some more shine to it.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

Glock, do you remember where the speed signal goes? The speedo has 3 inputs if I remember correct. I am putting a LQ9 in a military blazer and I am going to use the 91 cluster I have but I am unsure which pin to put the wire from the computer to. Is that all I need to do once I figure it out for the speedo to work? I know I have to repin my plug to match the 91 and I am switchind to a 91 tcase with the vss.

Hey Bob some of these servo kits have a new longer Sonnax pin. Do I need that also or can I use the old pin? Thanks in advance. The links below which one do I need?

Either one will work. I reused the stock pin. The longer pin will effectively tighten the band. Since it is longer, it will push farther in on the band to tighten up the clearance. Using the longer pin will probably firm the shifts up even more.
