Re: 58 GMC Project
Where could you have saved time or money if you were not building the show machine?

Re: 58 GMC Project
Buy a donor car, no extra chrome in the motor and a cheaper paint job. The rest depends on how much you want to upgrade the brakes and suspensions such as disc brakes or drum, power or non power brakes, power steering or non power steering, AC or no AC……..as you can see the list can go on and on.

Re: 58 GMC Project
Just read the whole thread, and this truck is my wallpaper on my work computer now. Man is it great! You have a subframe like the one I will put in, and run exactly the same wheels I want, so:
What is the offset of the front wheels? I know you run air bags and I was thinking of sticking with 2" drop spindles only, but regardless of bagged or not, I am curious of how your fitment is. I have heard that clips like ours can be a little wide, so I wanted to confirm if there are any considerations/tips on how you got an 8" wheel in there ok without rubbing and if there is anything I should consider. With regards to the rear wheels, what is the offset on these? I can figure out how wide your S10 rear axle is (I think that is what you put in right?), but did you have to widen the inner/outer wheel wells any? Any tips related to front or rear wheel/tire fitment would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!!! -Tobin. |

Re: 58 GMC Project
Cool!!! Just make sure you don't go to wide on the tires since the clearance is close.

Re: 58 GMC Project
Okay, I spent most of the day installing the latest upgrade to my truck today with the help of my son. I plan and bought this a few months back, but I’ve been waiting on chrome for it. I will be at Brothers show this coming weekend so those of you who will be there will see it first and then I will post some pictures for the rest of you.

Re: 58 GMC Project
Cal says
In a nutshell, here's the break down. Over $45k into the truck. $12k in body & paint. $3k in interior. $7k in the motor & trans. 2.5 years to build in my garage & a dozen busted knuckles. "The looks and comments you receive for all the hard work" PRICELESS

I love slaving away in the garage in 110 degree heat...giving your truck the love it deserves (polish, wax, etc.) It is well worth it. She is going to sparkle like never before by the end of the night!!!

Re: 58 GMC Project
Well another year that I missed Brothers Truck show. My day went from bad to worse all day long. I started Saturday morning, I go pick up the car trailer from united rentals. I get the trailer home to find out the brake lights and right turn signal did not work. I pull out my volt meter and sure enough, the trailer has a short some place. So I go all the way back to pick up a new trailer. So now I get home to load the truck onto the trailer, I go to pull the ramps from under the trailer and find one of them is jammed in. So we pull out the floor jack and lifted the trailer so my son could use a hammer to bang the ramp free. Finally, were on our way down south. All is going well until were stated going up the Grapevine, just about 3/4 of a mile up and my tow vehicle starts pinging really bad and then started loosing power and it over heated. So we pull over to let it cool down. Now the hard part, what to do? Knowing the Grapevine is up and down for the next 50 miles or so I had no choice but to turn back. So we pulled the 58 off the trailer so I could drive up hill to the next ramp to turn around as my son followed me back down in my 58. Once at the bottom, we put the 58 back on the trailer and drove home. Just as I pulled up to my house to top it all off my radiator hose blew out. For me, it's more disappointing to miss the chance to meet all of you who were going then to miss the show it self. Hopefully next year.
Here's the one and only picture I took, right before we left to the show.

Re: 58 GMC Project
Ahh! So thats why your truck wasn't there I waited around till 12:30 then figured something might have happened. To be honest the show wasn't all that great, was pretty unorganized and also overcast and humid. Also there were only a few really amazing cars there, of course your PU would have been up there! Oh well how about next year I will have my Chevy ready and we can hang out next to each other.

Re: 58 GMC Project
Sorry to here of your troubles CAl.
I was also there and just happened to meet tri5. We were both looking at the same truck and struck up a conversation about what we were building. He's a real nice guy. Was hoping to meet others from the board but when you weren't able to make it we had no place to hook up. Maybe we'll have better luck next time. heres a link to the pics I shot at the show.
