Yeah it was certainly patience and labor intensive, then going back over it all with the mini-files to get some nooks and corners just so, but in the end I really like how it turned out.
So totally worth the effort involved !!!

Lookin' good Murph! The lighted letters look really cool in the dark, & I'm interested to see how they work out in daylight. Stay warm, & keep up the good work.

Updates like these make me realize why you live in North Pole and get all the crap weather....... So you can think out and complete builds like this.

Absolutely awesome Michael.

Yes daylight is going to be the challenge, but the truck will be closer (much closer) to finished before I will take it off the dollys and get it outside for that. On that day it will be a walk around video though....

I guess there is a silver lining for every cloud if you look hard enough for it

I have some more photos I need to post up, and I have 2/3 of a video shot to compile, but I am working on some necessary electrical right now to really do the last third of the video up right for you guys.

As always, thanks for looking and commenting it really goes a long way to keep me motivated (and my thread updated)

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....

grille is awesome, that's going to look great coming down the road, I was wondering though, if you hold a piece of florescent fishing line in front of the letters in the dark, does it glow? if it does I need to do this to my fishing truck, the guys in our local bass club would flip. great idea

Thank you, it was a nervous undertaking I assure you.
Did not want to have to buy a new grill because I had jacked mine up...

If you mounted a black light behind there (with vibration/shock cushions) it would REALLY light up anything flourescent. Not a bad idea at all actually, but I would make a clear lens for the letters for that sort of application though.

Thanks for looking guys !!

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....

Hey guys !!

As most of you know I am trying to make something really special, or at least special to me....or like me....whatever.
I have also recently mentioned my buddy Jay has been cooking up something over the top, well I picked them up yesterday....

So ask yourself, have you ever seen a

Stepside 1966 Apache Custom SS ??

Well, now you have (well as soon as I mount these bad boys)
Name: 17dec13 Apache Custom SS emblems (2).jpg
Views: 758
Size: 39.9 KB

Here I have one of them done with paint.
The goal is to make them look as if they came from the factory, so I painted in the [custom] and the (SS) like the old Pontiac Customs, and the Camaro SS.

This is the concept art I gave to Jay a few weeks ago, from which he produced the above. His skills hinge on art in my opinion and his attention to detail just makes dealing with him a true joy. Talk about a professional hobby !!
Name: 25nov13 Apache Custom SS emblem draft.jpg

I was pretty heavily medicated when I drew the orginal draft, but Jay talked me into going with the Camaro SS style S's pretty easily when he showed me how it would look.
I never did like the capital A used on the old Apache emblems, so I stylized this one from the Star Trek shirt emblem worn my Captain Kirk on the Enterprise.
Yes, I am that much of a nerd-geek for Star Trek....

The plan is to mount these on the 1/4 cowls ahead of the rear view mirrors.

Sooooooo what do you think?
Personally I am amazed, his work continually stuns me !!

If any of you have tried to contact Jay via his website, please do so again.
He just told me this past weekend that there was a glitch on it where it was not saving any messages that were left, though he was getting notifications of them.

He apologizes for any misperceptions that may have occured, and would love to talk about your emblem or machining needs !!

Those emblems are absolutely amazing! They look like one of the over the top styling details for the clay mock ups, that were so beautiful or expensive they only appeared on the prototypes and never made it into regular production! Kudos!

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....

Those are bada$$!!!!

I did a similar mod on my Caprice but not to the level of craftsmanship. I cut the ss out of the Caprice Classic emblem that was on the back sail panel and made a Caprice SS which never existed in 79' and glued them on the front fenders.
