Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
Well...I finally got up enough nerve/gumption/courage to try and wet sand the doodle bug leavings outta my newly painted hood...
I'm not sure how much paint I removed, but I got 90% of the 4 worst spots out..I reckon they was breaking their legs off in the paint while they was doing their thang...as I was sanding you could feel bug parts roll up under the sandpaper everytime I went across his mess...I'll have to get it out in the sun where i can see it good....I'm not sure how many paint layers I've got till i hit primer...this being the 2nd goaround for paint on the hood, I may be ok..

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
Ugh. Bugs were terrible at my place this weekend too.
Just keep going slow, you'll get them out. Also, don't forget, if there's holes, etc, from their feet, you can try to blip in a little dab of paint and wet sand that out. I found a big paint chip on my Mustang's headlight bucket this weekend, two eraser size chunks side by side missing. Not sure what hit it, I guess a rock, but there wasn't any ding damage. I'll fill them in and eventually forget about them...

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
Yea, she's gotten a bunch over the last 35-40K miles, yes, it's actually been driven that much. I just fill em in and smooth 'em out best I can.
The FIRST DAY I had it, I took Jena for a ride, it had lap belts, she opened the door and dropped the belt latch right on the top of the rocker and took a good 3/8" chunk out of the paint. Been touching it up ever since Then just last week I took a friend for a ride and he flung my 3 point belt right into the top of the painted door (inside). Just have to accept it...

ouch...that's kinda the way I look at my C30...I got quoted $7k to paint just the cab...I said screw that and painted it in the driveway for under $300...I think about how much less it hurts when I hear a rock bounce of it

Why do I keep torturing myself by looking at this thread? I look and see all this great progress and it kills me I’m not achieving more.
Looking great. Can’t wait to see it all together

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
Thanks 67C...
Right now I'm working on the dreaded wiring , so not much worth showing... I've got another eastwood paint gun coming to replace the one I dropped.. Then I'll have a dedicated only for primer gun, and use the widow only for paint.. When it gets here I've got to hit the doors with some more high build, and if all looks good, then paint them...then all I'll have left to paint is the cab...gonna take some doings to get it in my "paint booth".. If that goes well then there'll be a bunch of assembly going on...

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
thanks flashed..!!!..
wiring is one of my least favorite things..i chose to use American autowire kit based on a buddy thats used several of them...ill have to say ,I'm on page 2 and so far its just basic, plug one end in, pull the wire to where it goes, cut to length, and crimp on a new end ..so far its been fairly simple...

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
I used an AAW kit on mine, which was my first time wiring a truck. It was just as you say. The only complicated part is that it didn't come with every connector needed so had to hope/pray I had the right one in my pile of harnesses saved from donor vehicles. Helps a lot if you use a good crimper. I started with a cheap Amazon one and decided to spring for the crimpers that AAW sells - night and day!

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
Still wiring...
I'll have to say so far the American autowire kit is very easy to figure out... even for a simple minded half wit like me...I'm about half way thru the kit so far.. No pics though..who wants to see wires..haha.. I did change a few things .. The kit comes with a new ign switch ,but I used the orig IH ign switch so I could keep my IH keys.. The dimmer switch that came with the kit wouldnt fit the switch holder on the floorboard...there was nothing wrong with my orig d-switch,so I used that.. The orig IH headlight switch was iffy looking at best...the kit comes with a new switch but has a funky chrome pull knob on it..so I finally separated the orig knob from the old switch , so I'm gonna use that as well... I still dont like wiring but so far no issues..
