Re: 67 GMC super custom build

My radio is a 1970 cadillac wonderbar radio and it has no way to move the antenna. I got the antenna cleaned and all the old hard grease cleaned up and the antenna works great. I am going to put a new mast on it because the original has some pitting on it where the past owner left it. Now I'm waiting for the fender bezel in the mail. Ince it comes I cansee if it will fit the fender the way I see it in my head.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

I just read up on 1970 cadillacs and in that year they used a antenna in the windshield. That might explain why my 1970 radio does not control the antenna.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

Here's a line for ironcanine. Once this antenna is finished I am done doing mods. For real. Metal work will start after it's done. There are 2 things I really wanted to add but I won't be doing. 1 is the short bed tool box. This one is completely do-able but I'd have to mess around with the fiberglass box and the body mouldings. I do have confidence that I could remedy these but I do want to drive this truck someday and the time/money it would take to do this I have come to feel would not be worth it. And # 2 comfortron. Even though they do make a hvac control panel that directly fits in cosmetically I've studied this over many occasions and it's too complicated to work it into our hvac system. So hopefully the parts come in the next 2 weeks to mount this antenna and then it will be off to final metal and in the new year. My head hurts thinking how to work all these cadillac options into this truck. Maby next year I'll complete this build. We'll see how fast this goes thru bodywork. I'm sure it won't be as fast as I like lol.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

So here's what I'm thinking. This will be tight but I think it will work providing the bezel I have coming from a different year cadillac fits the contour of the fender in the area I have to work with. The one in the picture isn't steep enough. Before I can go further I'll need to get it in my hands. I will also have to indent slightlythe fresh air box panel on the cab where the tube goes down. The motor should be underneath it. I'll attempt this on a rustedfender 1st.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

When I was rebuilding my horns I bought the other 2 horns needed to make this a 4 note set up. I mounted the trumpet horn on the hood latch support directly behind the center bar of the grille. You can barely notice that its there from the outside. The other I'll find a place for in the engine bay.

I'll believe you're done with mods when the truck is done. This whole truck is a GMC-tron. I kid you about it, but I don't want you to stop. I love what you have done/are doing. It is inspired and remarkably cohesive. Don't stop.

Now you're just tooting your own horn.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

Well I got the bezel in the mail today and it fits the body curve of the fender really well. I did use a spare driver fender Just to see if it would fit before I made the mod on my fender I'm using. I was going to do the mod on my passenger fender but where I have it here on the fender sitting in the driver seat you can't even see it. It's behind the Pillar so I might leave it there. Would be easier to mod the cowl behind d it on the driver side because the a/c stuff isn't there. Now to figure out bracketry.
