Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I installed a new grant steering wheel, now I have a horn that works! It was kind of interesting to do it without a puller. I ended up putting the big nut under the wheel and using the three small outer bolts to pull it off the spline. It just makes me feel better with a horn to let people know I'm here! Also got a new stool for my garage and stuff to do an oil change

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

i hauled out the old motor on my own in about 3.5 hours. not too bad for doing it myself. but then again that isn't totally consecutive. i had to stop to get my wife's cat from the vet, my daughter from daycare, and then run back to the parts store to get hyd fluid for my cherry picker

Well now that you mentioned the cat, daughter and the hydralic fluid run i guess 3 1/2 hours isn't too bad. When i pulled my engine back around 95 i had the fluids, fan and radiator out in about 30 min, then went to get a cherry picker, brought it home and had the engine out and the picker back in about an hour.. Oh to be young again! LOL!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

While deployed....I once again spent my time off researching the c*#p out of this forum....it just never ends. There are so many different threads and different ideas that I'm now confused on were I want to go with my 67 stepside once I return.

Ohhh, and my wife gets a call saying "the truck is an eye soar" sitting in the driveway......some people just don't get it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

both times that i pulled a motor out of this truck i never removed the rad. always managed to clear the rad and core support just fine. i just wish i didn't have to pull the hood to get the motor out though

Thanks for your service.

Suggest you get a truck cover sent to your wife so she can cover it. Not only does she not need "nosiness" from the neighbors, but if it's unregistered/uninsured someone may call the code enforcement folks and they'll start hassling her. If it's covered, they can't look under the cover for a current license. The cover will also help protect the truck from folks with sticky fingers from lifting parts.

Good luck and come back safe.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Put in a new starter. Could have done it last summer when I knew it was getting tired, but I figured it would be better to wait till it was 30F outside to do it.

Starts perfect now.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I picked up my new 4l85E today. Now I can get started on my project. Had to wait until I had all of the big parts before tearing my truck apart (ZZ502, 4l85E and a Strainge 9" with Wilwood brakes).

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Finally got to start working on my bed wood again. It's been a couple of weeks and I havent got to do anything but fire her up for a few minutes. Sanded down the bottom side and put on the first coat of Spar Urethane. Hopefully it dries enough today that I can put another coat on tonight. Got two more coats to go then I can start on the top side.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

It's raining and dreary here today. Made a trip into town yesterday and got an early BD present from the Boss (wife). She had already ponied up $200 of the $400 for the front and rear window purchase/install.
That was supposed to be it. But when she saw me pawing a Craftsman polisher (for the interior I painted a few weeks ago), she "insisted".

Nice.

So, today, I'm staying under the roof next to the wood stove.....and reading the Forum.

Let's see if I can find some kind of pic that's related to this post.....Thanks for the polisher, Woman!!!! (Just in case she reads the Forum today )

Today I put in, the radio, antenna, which is hidden under the cowl, I filled in the hole on the cowl during the body work, wanted a cleaner look. The wipers back on,, washer pump wouldn't work so I put in a universal one under the hood.: 68gmc2:

Nothing to the truck but installed a new connecting rod in my air compressor. No I've just gotta fill it up with oil and get my electric routed and I'll be in air tool heaven!

I did the same exact thing, being as I am deployed to the Stan right now as well. I am thinking (after all my extensive research) that after completing Project Heaven I am going to try and do all the work on my 68 by myself...Engine/drivetrain were never the issue but I am going to dive into rust repair and paint myself this time to save the STUPID amount of money I spent on Heaven! LOL

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Sanded down the tops of the bed wood. I will put on the first coat of urethane tonight. Bought my wife a set of american racing wheels for her mustang. Should be worth some points for chevy parts.
[IMG][/IMG]

and here is the boy with the bed wood. He would rather work on the truck than hang with his friend across the street. Good times!
