Yes it did. I had saved the ad a few months ago, and checked back with him and they were ready to move it

I believe the motor is original. It was sold new at O'rielly Chevrolet in Tucson Arizona. The motor code is TLM, and that's a '72 402 with A.I.R. I was under the impression all 72 1/2 ton 402's had smog? My 3/4 tons don't have smog

My knowledge base is really constrained to 4wds: you're probably correct on 72 1/2t BBs having AIR. I learn new info here all the time.

If you get time to weigh in with any anecdotes or photos re: smog/AIR equipment please weigh in here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=750975

This is by no means scientific but I have 42 Highlanders booked marked in file on my computer and 37 are Long Boxes and the other 5 Short WB. When you asked the question and before I checked my file I was thinking 90% LB and 10% SB so with 5 SB's out of 42 total that is 11.9% which think is pretty close.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Not sure why, but my gut feeling (and that's all it is) is that it's much less than 10% for swb. I've only seen 3 or 4, but have seen a lot of highlanders. I'd be really interested in the C10 vs C20 stats (if there were any), - and I've also always thought that theres seem to be a strangely high proportion of C20 Custom Campers that had the package or trim.

Reproduction Highlander Plaid seatcovers

Since I have been asked again about these, I decided to call Southwest Classics and update my threads.

Per a very helpful gal, Thosha, They offer custom made specific covers in all four insert colors.

As of today Pickups run $779 with the deletable scroll insert.

They are not currently listed on their website!

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

My brother just bought this super clean 1972 Highlander. This was an original new mexico truck and it is incredibly rust free. The previous owner bought it for the engine and parked it. My brother has a restored K20 chassis he is planning on swapping this body on. I know its not out of the ordinary but i thought it was a little odd seeing a Custom Deluxe Highlander with a manual trans and manual steering. Here are just a few pictures. The grill in the picture is just ratchet strapped on. Its not wrecked.

"I know its not out of the ordinary but I thought it was a little odd seeing a Custom Deluxe Highlander with a manual trans and manual steering." Your right it does deviate from the normal Auto Trans and Power Steering that most Highlanders had but back then you could order a truck "A La Carte" with any combo of options. You could order a Cheyenne Super witha 250 6 cyl engine and no power steering or power brakess if that is what you wanted.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Looks to be , because of the spid saying green plaid
I’m more adverse on chevy’s, not sure I’ve even seen to many GMC’s
Very cool color combo
The opposite of mine, that has been shown in this thread early on

Spend some time and read this thread from the beginning, you will love it

Nice truck in a great color combo. That's a 3/4 ton SPID - but I THINK I'm seeing 6 lug wheels (at least up front)?? Is there a story there (or I may just need to go find my glasses...)

That's not stock. I can't make out the back - , but if you have 6 lug all the way around, it's possibly a frame swap - i.e. your 3/4 ton GMC body onto a 1/2 ton frame. Not likely anyone went to the trouble to change from 8 to 6 lug on the 3/4 ton frame (5 lug I might believe, but 8 to 6 front suspension/spindles and rear axle is a bit of an odd/out of the ordinary swap to do). Might want to dig around for the frame VIN, it's on the driver's side upper frame rail, visible when looking down into the engine compartment, kinda somewhere around the steering box/ps pump area, sorta kinda. Should be a partial VIN there under years of grime.

If it's 6 lug on the front only, well, who knows... ha. Odd thing to do and I'd recommend checking to see what lug (6 or 8) your spare is! Just so you know which tires to NOT get a flat on
I'd want to know if the frame matches. If it does, then someone must've just swapped on 1/2 ton front suspension - again, a very odd thing to do. Do you have leafs in the back or coils? If coils, that's another clue it's a frame swap as the SPID calls out the rear leaf suspension that was on it when new.

EDIT: Oh, and sorry, I was so focused on the lug # that I missed that you said DRUMS on front. So, no, 6 lug not correct for a 3/4, and drums not correct for a 72. If I had to guess - I'd be willing to be you have a 70 or older 1/2 ton frame and suspension.

OOH! I missed this earlier somehow - wow, nice truck! Cool color combo. Don't think I've seen the deluxe white/yellow with gray yet.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

good detective work - so, frame matches SPID - your truck even has the upper belt molding and looks like it never had lowers - as the SPID indicates - so body seems original and colors match. Fuel filler hole on the driver's side bed? The only conclusion I can think of is that the suspension was swapped out for some reason. I'd track down the previous owner and kick him in the bagettes. Ha, just kidding. You've got a real nice truck. Thinking of swapping back to 3/4 ton susp? I'd look to see evidence of the leaf hangers, etc - might find a donor on here easily or even locally. Or, if you're happy as is, no worries at all, like I said, very neat truck, drive it and enjoy!
