Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!
might start researching the possibility of selling the money pit. It's going to be 2 years before I can focus on this project...
THoughts (besides "dont do it")? 1. Find a buyer for everything 2. find a buyer for chassis and body, then all of the parts? 3. find a buyer for all?

It is only time, two years will be over before you know it. I know you said responses different from don't do it, well I say give it a year or two and then make your decision!

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!
1st----don't do it you know you'll never get close to the money invested back and none of your time invested.....
2nd----Aren't your 1 and 3 options the same 3rd----I'd try to sell it all together first...set a price you want and add 1000 since everyone wants to get a deal so you need room to drop the price 4th---If you separate you'll get more than all together but it's a LOT of time to deal with parting it out/shipping (if you are even willing) that seems counter-intuitive since time is your issue now....

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!
We'll see what happens... totally agree that I won't get the money back out of it. I have nearly EVERYTHING to finish it too... Just some cab metal work and paint and body finishing...
Maybe the wife can write to one of those "overhaulin" type shows while i'm deployed. Let them come scoop it up and get chip foose to put his touch on it!

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!
Sucks doesnt! You know how much time and money you have in it.
You have all the parts tucked away in the basement move the roller as far over out of the way in the garage and forget about. Actually you mentioned to me toby and the more i thought about it you were right. Think about it, it is not costing you anything other than space. Imagine being able to toss mikey the keys someday and tell him to take care of her. This would have a hell of a lot more memories, meaning and appreciation for him or the girls than money. If not they could sell? I wished my old man, grand parents would have held on to some of their vehicles for us. Also 9x out of 10 you will just be pissed by the jacks that come and insult you by low balling and wheeling a deal. I know why you are thinking though cause i did and i did not even have a deployment in the mix. Somethings to consider.

Mike - I undstand your frustration.....prep everything for long term storage and it will all be ready to go when you have time to get back on it. If you sell it, you'll regret it for a long time.....let me know when you make it you Rucker.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!
My advice would be to hold on to it. It will give you something good to think about while you are deployed and it is pretty good therapy after you get back for those times you won't want to be around anyone. Helped me a lot.

Having been in a similar situation I would try to hold onto it if at all possible.
I sold my 442 convertible project when I got orders to Korea and regret doing so nearly every day. A couple years in storage is no big deal. There is a ton of great info out there on how to prep all the systems on the truck so it will come though it with flying colors.

Rob, my boss cancelled the Rucker trip... i'll be flying Blackhawks for awhile now John, I could always toss Mikey the keys to a built 1970 chevelle too though! I figure that i'm ready for a mid life crisis muscle car after a trip to good 'ole "stan"...

Mike,
I never thought this day would come! Can't tell you not to do it, but I can certainly relate. It's been two years since I've touched mine, it being on hold while I finish the house. I will tell you that every time I go into the garage for something, it is there and "calling" to me...I can't wait until I can start working on it again... I know the desire comes in waves.

Once I sell my Ford then the pressure to sell the Chevy will slow... only time will tell... nobody is going to be throwing me a briefcase full of cash right now so we'll see..

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!
Great build Major!!! Been lurking for years, quietlly posting here and there but felt compelled to pipe up on this one. DONT SELL!!! You'll regret it! I know it'll eat at you, maybe not while you're moving Soldiers or supplies around the battlefield, sooner or later, regret will set in. I know you'll spend all your down-time while in theater thinking about home and family, but at some point when you have a spare moment during crew rest, you'll fint the time to get on the net and you'll find yourself on this site, and when you do, whammo!!! REGRET!!
Who knows, maybe your unit will be off-ramped??? Again, dont sell, FINISH THE TASK at hand. Oh ya, work on AOC too while you're there if you only have ILE Common Core finished. RYDER 8 over! 2/34 IBCT Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!
That AOC business is ridiculous. I thought i'd be done at graduation and they came out with that new course! I'm hoping to move back to the schoolhouse on demob so i'll have some free time for trucks and AOC. I already finished my Masters degree so I almost have the "checklist" complete.
I doubt that i'll try too hard to sell since it will take a lot of time, as mentioned. Next goal is to get rid of the Ford, prepare for warfighter, just finsished an ARMS inspection, now in an IG inspection... Then on to pre-mob training (all of June) and start packing for Ft hood (post mob). Yeah, we are busy... Defender 3 out...

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!
AOC is a pain, thank God I'm grandfathered. Im the G3 for IA and we're dealing with the reality of AOC. Good luck on your deployment. Just got back myself from OEF. Served with 2/34 IBCT as the Deputy Cdr and take command of it in June.
Stay safe. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!
My BC is grandfathered but the XO was a year later and not... I'm a 2001 year group so unless I hit a functional area (slight possibility) then i'll probably knock it out in 2014. I don't know that I want to tackle a DL course while deployed. I still don't know my full role in country yet so i'll sit tight and see.

Hello, i am a newbie to this forum , in looking thru the forum i found your truck on one of the pictures i saw where you show an (what looks like to me like an air bag ) toward the back corner of the cab , i very much like this idea for my truck - i have an extended cab truck just about everyone that rides in the back seat complains of how bumpy it is in the back seat. would mind letting me know where i can purchase this set up you have. i would appreciate it very much. Thank You Gunnit ( aka) Hector 6/4/2012 |

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!
no airbag, it was just the shape of the factory cab mount. They are stiff rubber. However, the setup that you are looking for could be found on any newer semi-tractor trailer cab. I don't think that it would work too well on ours though since the bed is so close to the cab, the might hit if the cab bounced.
Here is a link to one like mine... http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI...3#ht_500wt_922

Yeah totally don't sell it! I've been stationed overseas for the last 4 years kinda by my choice but have never once thought about selling my truck. I just get on here get ideas brewing in my head and end up with a parts pile everytime I come home once a year to the U.S.
