Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

Ed - Did you paint your rotors / calipers?

By the way - it does still need grease in the bearings up front, it's just stuck on there to see what it looks like. I'm thinking I may paint my calipers and the center part of my rotors.. Prob just black, but ..? I just dont want them to rust.

I did. I painted the rotor hats gloss black and the calipers in a steel grey. They look good behind the Boss 338's. Remember I have the McGaughy front 13" brake kit.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

I need some help fellas ..

I am in the market for my Master Cyl, and prop valve for the disc/disc setup. What are you guys running? I looked at CPP this morning and they have a Tandem Chambered type for $259

http://www.classicperform.com/Store/...260-8556-P.htm

This one looks really clean to me. they have one that's solid black eCoat too for the same price. This one is 1 1/8" bore too. I have a brand new OE booster I could run .. but my question is, .. does this MC even need the booster? I see some of the guys running Wilwood (Raull, N2Billet) that appear to have this same MC, but no booster? Is the Prop valve built in to this MC? Pretty cool ..

Help me choose please. What would you guys run? My truck was original power drum up front. Realizing I might need to change and / or run new lines for this one.. your thoughts?

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

I'm running this M/C on my stepside.
If you like the feel of brakes with a booster,... this will definitely be a different/harder pedal without the booster.

I have a manual set up on my red '69 with an aftermarket prop valve.
When I switch it to rear disc brakes,... I'm going to run a Wilwood M/C and just install an adjustable prop valve in the rear line.
(mounted under the cab on the frame)
This way I can clean up the brake lines under the hood.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

I'm an ole Heel/Toe Boris Said type driver .. I like to drag the brake a little, so I guess a hard pedal would not be for me. So this MC would bolt up to the original booster ? I thought I might get the black one so it goesn't look so 'Aftermarket' compared to my other stuff under the hood now. Black booster, black MC?

Am I correct and the prop valve on this one is built in to the MC? I'm just not a big fan of the bracket hanging down beneath it for the prop valve. I'm open to put it on the frame rail too though. Would you have any reference material, pics of how it's done?

The Wilwood M/C will bolt up to your booster.
There is no built in prop valve.
CPP sells a M/C of their own brand that has a built in prop valve,... but I've never used one.
I'll look for some pics.

And if you decide to get the Wilwood M/C,... try Summit Racing or Jegs.
They keep them in stock.

I think n2billet runs a 7/8" bore M/C on Hazel's manual brake set up.
I have a 1" bore on my '69's manual set up.
I think you would want a 1-1/8" bore for your disc/disc power set up.

Maybe someone else will chime in with their opinion.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

Wilwood sells just the adjustable "in-line" version for the rear brakeline.
Just make sure you order the correct version.
They have 3,... with different thread sizes attheports.
( I would use the inverted flare version)

They also have a new style adjustable prop valve that incorporates a brake light switch.

I also have the black version of this M/C on my stepside project.
But I'm running a SSBC adjustable prop valve mounted on the frame.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

So the lines would run out of the MC, then into the Prop valve, and out to the wheels.. (?) I am pretty sure that's correct. Which side of the frame rail would be better, driver / pass ? Is it better to have the valve closer to the MC or further away .. Assuming all new lines and custom bent tubing ?

May be goofy questions, but that's how I learn. Thanks for your help.

I mounted my prop valve on the drivers side.

I never understood GM's reasoning for running the REAR line across the back of the crossmember to the passenger side,... and then down the frame rail to the rearend.
I ran my new rear line down the driver's side frame rail.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

That's it right there man. WOW.

So I could do this same setup with a booster to make it less of a 'hard' pedal feel ?

Sure.
I would contact Wilwood and ask them about the correct bore for a power brake set-up.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

That black Wilwood MC is killer though. I think that might be the ticket. I like the idea of adjustability for the rear 'kick' too. What do most people run 65/35 or so ? (35% rear?) I have never had a 4 wheel disc setup before. .. just not sure how it's setup. Just adjust it to my liking?

( I have on newer cars, .. just not something I installed I mean. I have had 1LE Z28, Corvette, Trans Am, BMW 335, etc.)
