Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.
Well, it took me two days to get all the way thru your build, but MAN!! Was it worth it! Great work and inspiration! This is going to be the same as my next project, I appreciate you figuring out all the headaches for me up front. I really love the newer HVAC idea too, but I may have to re-engineer it to keep the stock dash and controls.
Just a great build thread and I wanted to let you know your project rocks, can't wait to see it done.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.
I finished up with the epoxy seam sealer that flows. I will still have some to do that will take the normal caulk type. Rear panel is blocked and ready for the last prime.

Drew, Any chance you'll be done with her in oh say around 4 months (roughly the time I have left over here in the sand box)? Can't wait to see it finished, should look really good!

Whats this epoxy seam sealer that flows that you speak of? Oh and great work you do, both on and off the truck. Jim

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.
I really can't say when I might be done. I am currently over-blessed with work and am having a hard time carving out time for the crew cab. Plus summers are always filled with extracurricular activities. Christmas???

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.
Very nice work as usual. Did you paint that green unit in your portable paint booth too?

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.
And, how did the color match and did you blend into the back doors? I have a Suburban about that same color that I should fix...

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.
Yes I painted it in my poly booth with the door open and the nose of the truck outside. Amazingly not much trash in the paint. The metallic color is very hard to match and basically doesn't if you look in bright sunlight at strange angles. It's ok, but I don't really care since it is for sale with a salvage title. Painting the panels off the truck and laying flat lets the metal flake lay down differently than if the panels are mounted and are vertical. Metallic particles also sink to the bottom of the gallon can so latter paint work may be more metallic than earlier work. The metallic particles even sink in your spray gun, so earlier passes may look different than latter passes. All of it is VERY tricky and certainly not recommended for a novice.

Painting metallic sucks plain and simple. You really need a good gun that atomizes the paint good. Another trick is to mix the last coat a little thin and keep your fan wide and it will lay the metal down a little more evenly. tiger stripes suck Your paint looks like it matches great. Keep the pics coming even if they are little skewed from the stein project. Always good information. |

Man, I love it. Can I call dibs on it, when you finish it and decide you want another project? Of course, as a 'Burb guy, I am obligated to say "I cant BELIEVE you cut up that all original 'Burb." - there... I'm over it.

Looking good. So when will the body parts all meet on the frame for the last (permanent) time???

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.
After all is painted, I don't want overspray all over the engine and frame and like it is those are so easy to cover up. I can't tell how long that will be though.
