Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Someone asked if I wanted to sell my truck (I don't) I said you can't afford it. One day someone might surprise me.

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Hi guys!
Few updates...

Had a great vacation in Crete

Nomad was sold just before me, the woman that sold it went right away off to the UK..
Was too good to be true...

Also, I’ve have a “new” Hot Rod shed, I’m moving. Remember my truck just didn’t fit in the shed?
Now I have some more space
I can fit my truck easily and my buddy’s ‘72 Suburban. And my sons ‘77 Mustang.
And my motorcycles
Plus have place to put in a large workbench and my lathe which is still at my home. Then I have everything in one place, better
I am busy with cleaning there and building my workspace.
There are three cars that should move out in the next week and a car ramp that I don’t want.
Where the car ramp is now it’s high enough to put your car in the air, the back space is much larger but only 7,5 foot high. High enough for me.
The whole space is a L-shape and about 100m2 (or about 1075 sq.foot)
Pictures are comming in the next week I hope.

Oh and healthwise I’m doing fine

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

So, been slowly busy in my new Hot Rod Shed, we got it empty last Friday, all the things of other Owners are gone, cars are out, except for some windows.

I have build a new workbench at my working height (100cm, 3ft), installed 220V electrics and installed 380V electrics for the lathe. This we have to get from my house yet.

My buddy’s Suburban is already in it, so we can slowly get to work on that one.
My son’s Mustang is also in, for new radiator and rear shocks.
Already repaired a Harley in there, good to have some extra space!!

I also have to build a small motorcycle for a friends sister, no deadline on that one
Gonna be good wrenching in my new shed

Pic #1 as I got into the shed and cleaned a bit, this is a Wall of 23 fit long
Pic #2 the same wall, now workbench area
Pic #3 backcorner, made a storage wall for small parts out of old pallets
Pic #4 buddy’s ‘72 Sub inside for repairs
Pic #5 my son’s Mustang II, also for repair

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Hey Kees.
Your work bench and tool wall looks real good. Nice to have everything where you can get to them easily.
Is your truck going into the space where the suburban is now after it gets done?
Enjoy your new shop. It will be fun.

Earl

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Thanks for the kind words guys!

Earl, the Sub will stay for a while, the Mustang is my son’s car, that will be repaired and hit the road again.
My truck will fit in also, from where the last picture is taken, is some 20 feet by almost 10 feet, say a 1 car garage. But when I have to do things to my truck it must stand where the Mustang is, then I can get around with no problem (when the Sub is still in).

For me this is really a very nice space, only “bad” point, is that it isn’t high.
Where you come in, the 1 car garage so to speak, has a high roof tho..
If the body and brain allows I will be here often

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Thank you Doug! There are coming a few cool projects in the near future

Today I got the upper radiator brackets done of the Mustang. It barely fits in there had to modify the front slightly and the radiator to get it in.
It is not an original radiator, I only could buy one from the states, costs me a whopping €600 to my door...so we opted for an universal race radiator, slightly bigger overall. Also we put in two 10” electric fans and a new transmission cooler.
Pic #1 the old and new. You can hardly see that the new one is a bit bigger/wider
Pic #2 and 3 how it fits in the car
Pic #4 homemade upper bracket
Pic #5 where you enter, through the one car garage, picture taken from the front of the Mustang, so you have an idea how the place is (I hope)

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Been busy cleaning the shed between work
Lathe is finally in, so now we have everything in one place.
A few things to do, such as extra electrical sockets and a few extra lights on the ceiling.

All parts for the mustang are here now, we can slowly get to work...
Let the fun begin!!
An impression:

Good economical solution for the radiator Kees. Your space looks great! Something about a nice shop space gives me the warm fuzzies. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Thanks Doug!
I’m very happy with the new shed!

The downside is that I haven’t time for my own truck

I promised the sis of a good friend to build a nice motorcycle for her, so I will.
Then the Burb of a clubmember is in my shed, that’s a big car!!
This didn’t come through technical inspection, must be repaired first, we’ll see when we going to do this.

I have some repairs going on the Mustang of my son, almost ready with that.
On top of that, we brought the 1935 Ford Five Window to my shop.
This car is also of a clubmember, who is somewhat ripped off by a Well known Hot Rod Shop here in the Netherlands. That man didn’t stood up to his promesses. So we pulled out out his car. Now I have to make a driver out of it.
So, shop is full
What are friends for, right??

Good thing is that both of these builds don’t have a deadline, otherwise I couldn’t do it with my body, see it like therapy

Pic #1 happy me, finally loaded up
Pic #2,3 on the road, 60 miles to go
Pic 4,5 awesome Offenhauser equipped Flathead goes into the 5-window

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Thanks Jim, happy pics are the best!

Steve, my son drives a ‘77 Mustang II! The car nobody wants...
It drives fantastic by the way, 302V8, automatic. His first car, I think he has the same deviation as his dad

You’re right about the Offenhauser Flathead, really cool engines!!

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Thanks Mark.
We have to check everything that the so called “proffesional” Hot rod shop had done.
I’ll keep you updated on the things we do.
Should be fun when we get building!

Edit....
Maybe I need your help on some things along the way. You US guys have way more experience than I do with these cars....
