Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Unfortunately less than 50 miles this summer. Took him for a cruise this summer and lost all the coolant.........got it home and parked him back in the garage.
Too much stuff going on and the summer got away from me. Thinking of pulling the 350/350 and freshen everything up. |

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Back at it, somewhat anyway.
Starting working on some smaller stuff that never got taken care of before. Stripped the passenger door today. New glass, felt and rubber seals and lock tumbler on the way. Not sure what the future brings. When I built this truck life was a lot different. Living in ND with long dark winters this build kept me sane. Now living in Idaho my hobbies have changed and I just do not have the passion for it. It kills me to see it sitting in the corner under a layer of dust. Garage space is a bit of a premium, so it sitting sucks. I have never been the type of person to hang onto something if I am not using it. Not sure if it will hit the market or not. Planning on tinkering on odds and ends all winter and see what spring brings. |

Thanks. Maybe some tinkering over the winter will reignite the flame a bit.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Seeing the various post on social media, I figured you were back at it. It is funny how a few items that don't work can really kill your vibe. Once you get these items knocked off I bet you will enjoy cruising around in this truck.
Glad to see you showing it some love. If you do decide to sell you wont have any problems finding someone to gladly take it off your hands. Good luck... Marc

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Well I hope you fixing some of the small things will get you back into love with it, the small stuff that doesn't work right or squeaks seems fine at first but gets on your nerves, after a bit then you don't want to deal with it. Life does change for many of us from time to time and we can't take everything with us.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
I understand how some time "life" gets in the way of our "fun". Ive had my '49 since 1973 and some times it will sit for a year with out even starting it. Then the itch starts to sell it. But my good wife says just go drive it and the magic is back so I start working on it. For some reason she wont let me sell it. could be because we dated in it. I think she - the wife - and the truck are keepers.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Glad to see old Henry getting some love. Popeye sits a lot too, and still has some unfinished loose ends. I got him out this fall and tried to get ready for a show and it seemed like everything went wrong, kind of sad. I'm needing to go through it all again, like a part II or just put him in the corner. It's a weird feeling, I get it!

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
I tore the passenger door apart this week and ordered some parts. New Felt and Seals. Need to find a local place to cut some glass. Finally getting the lock tumbler to work with the Altman latches. Just little stuff that I overlooked to get the truck on the road, or did not want to spend any more cash at that point.
I am going to rework my storage in my garage. Drop a rod through the ceiling to support my storage area and eliminate the post to the ground. Put Henry on the rollers and I can move him easier. |

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
I did kind of the same thing to a storage shelf in my garage. I used a screw eye in the rafter, some medium duty chain and a turn buckle on the shelf end. that allowed me to make any adjustments to make the shelf level.

Back at it. My Daughter is getting married in a couple weeks and wants pictures with Henry.
First time out of the garage in quite awhile. Short test drive and a bath. |

Good for her (and you). I saw some recent activity on IG. I wondered what was the motivation behind it. Love seeing it.
Keep at it. Marc

Our youngest, Colton, has taken a real interest in anything mechanical. He has been by my side helping me get him back on the road. I had a cheap thermostat housing and it had started to corrode pretty bad. That was the reason for the loss of coolant years back. Replacing it turned into a bit of an adventure. 2 broken bolts. I was able to get the first one out with an E-Z out. The second one fought until the end. Broken E-Z outs, busted knuckles, etc. Finally had to break out the welder. Probably should have done that from the start but I had never done it before. Went pretty well after that. |

What is the consensus on rebuilding gauges?
None of mine work, and I am trying to figure out rebuilding them, or just replace them. |

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
I would follow my same rules on rebuilding carbs. By rebuilding, I mean grab a new one out of the box and bolt it on..

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Busy weekend for Henry. Got to enjoy a couple hundred miles of driving him in the past week or so, which has been a blast.
He was the center of attention all weekend, which is awesome. So many compliments and conversations. I have been searching for motivation to get this project completed and have him become a daily. This really lit the match. |
