Maybe I missed it - do you have a final color in mind? I ask because with all the nice custom work you're doing it would be nice to have your firewall and inner fenders match the outside - but that's just my opinion and you know what those are worth, ha ha!

I'm leaning toward old school gauges. I think they will fit the theme of the truck.
Final color right now is a mid sixties Chevelle light metallic blue.
With my engine color not sure how it will look under the hood (not much contrast).
White fire wall is definitely out as I want it to be a daily driver and easy maintenance is a must.
I like how my frame turned out with the Hammered Rustoleum and have played around with the silver on a small panel.

Amazing work, have read the build numerous times. Helps to give me ideas! Before you smoothed your firewall did you happen to notice or remember if the original hood hinges were flush from the firewall to the pillars. I have one side that is set in 1/2" or so wasn't sure if it was factory or if it needs to come out flush. Thanks!

From what I remember they are flush.
The very first pic in my thread shows the old fire wall still in.
Maybe some one can post a close up pic for you as I don't have any to show it.

here is a pic of my cab explosion. maybe you can cipher an answer from there? I believe the two sides should look the same except a mirror image.this was a 57 gmc cab but they are supposed to be all the same in that area I believe.

Yeah they seem to appear flush. I attempted to upload a photo, doing this all from my phone so hopefully it works. Anyways the driver side to front upper left of the firewall is what I'm asking about. Where the hood hinges go it's about 1/8" shallow or sunk in from the cowl panel. Thanks. I can cut and push it forward to make it flush just wanted to make sure. Thanks guys.

I hear 'ya. I'd. Decided on red long ago and I've gone through a number of other color ideas since. I keep coming back to red but I have also strongly considered orange and a green somewhat like the Rustoleum Sage green that was on my truck before I blew it apart.

I intend to build only one truck (Yeah, we'll see!). Been waiting my whole life so that's why I'm sticking with red. Everyone says, "Arrest Me Red" or "Resale Red" - I get it; it's trite, its been done. I keep telling myself that's because it looks good. I guess you'll all know right after I do, ha ha!

Whatever you pick I'm sure it'll look great. Best, Dan

I want to paint it myself and I know metallic paint can be tricky so I may have to change my plans.
Thinking about practicing on some flat sheets with some metallic Dupli Color Paint Shop paint my brother gave me before I buy the real stuff.
We'll see when the time comes.

I was just looking at my truck today and wondering why they have that indented section on the back of the cab and thinking to myself how it would look to smooth it out. After seeing your cab pics it looks great.You have some great skills. Looks awesome

They did it to give the cab rigidity. Keeps the big expanse of sheet metal in that area from "oil canning."

There are some very nice non-metallic medium blues right now. In person i can't decide if i like the VW blue better (has a touch of periwinkle to it) or the new Fiat but i think it's the Fiat by a nose, lol.

Life has a way of slowing down progress but I'm going to keep at it.
Basically been doing body work and it's slow going as I'm learning as I go so I do things more than once that a body man wouldn't have to.
Amazing how much sanding there is.
