Well he slept for another hour this morning so I had a chance to clean things up and get ready for next weekend, CUT TIME! I moved things around in the shop so it is front and center for slicing and fitting of all the new body parts! See you all next weekend

Re: LFD's Project Traizer 2WD closed cab.

Things are starting to happen and will be going even faster in the next month or so. I an getting it ready to head off to the media blasters by removing all rusted metal that will be replaced with new. This way we only pay to get blasted what is going to stay for the long hall. I am also test fitting the new panels so once it comes back it will fly together Here are a few pics from the last few days. I hope to have it all blown apart by Sunday after noon so it can hit the blasters in the next two weeks.

I'm amazed by your talent.

IMO, it takes some keen 'vision' to see how things 'should' come together when doing one-off stuff (should & do are two very different results). You seem to have the touch needed to make things right.

Check this out, yesterday the owner of this build called up ECE and ordered the floor patches for front and back, side to side as well as the two A pillar bottoms. Guess what was waiting for me today when I got home! Now that is fast service

Re: LFD's Project Traizer 2WD closed cab.

Getting more done today on the Trazer. Started off by grinding down the rear cab belt line weld and the pop rivit holes inside the cab. Then I focused on the A pillar section's. I could have just welded it up like most people do but I feel it is a good idea to add a bit of reinforcement to the posts. I do this in two ways, first I cut the opst open on the inside of the jamb stagering the out side cut. Then I cut out a patch from the doner cab so when it is welded up the cut seam is not all in the same plane ( one straite line) but off set to three different areas. Also I like to add a section plate to the inside of the post adding more strength to the post. I cut this section out of the same doner post that I got the outer plate from. I drilled 10 holes in it so I could plug weld it to the inside post but not untill I cleanned everything real well and sprayed it all down with Eastwoods Rust Encapsulator. I also coated everyting after the inner plate was welded up. Here are some pics of the passenger side and I am headed back out to finish the drivers side now that I had lunch

Re: LFD's Project Traizer 2WD closed cab.

A bit more progress for the day
I started things off by checking the fit of a very rare blazer option, the bolt in low hump floor
Then I welded up all the holes in the new dash that were caused when it was removed from the doner vehical. I figured it would be alot easier to do all this now before it gets installed. Then I started fitting the floors, kick panels, A post bottoms and outer rockers. Everything is trimmed and cut awaiting blasting then it will just pop it self all back in

It will all look better once it is all welded in place after blasting and epoxy coating.

So you are going to blast, then install the replacement panels? Just wondering why you wouldn't go ahead and install, then blast once all assembled. Jeff.

Good question! I want the blaster to have full access to every thing posible. With the dash out, bed sides off, rockers and floors out and on a tip and flip dolly they will be able to get almost every square inch of this blazer. They will also be tipping it on it side to get teh entire bottom surface as well. The only thing they will not have access to is the inside of the head liner and under side of the roof. That is one reason we used the cab that we did for the roof section is because it had zero rust.
So once it is blasted and epoxy coated I will then replace all the areas that you have seen so far. I have made all the cuts in places that I will be able to get to thru the rocker box ends to prime and seal after install. I felt this was the best way to insure a longer rust free life after completion.

Quick up date, I just got back from the blasters and it looks great. Now I can start putting it together for good and not be concerned about rust. Here are a few pics.

Re: LFD's Project Traizer 2WD closed cab.

Nice progress!!! What was the plan for this one? Bagged? Big wheels? That sucks about your air compressor, hopefully your warranty will cover it. If they don't cover it and its the motor you might be able to have it rebuilt. I have a place local to me that rebuilds ac and dc treadmill motors that I've had real good luck with.

Re: LFD's Project Traizer 2WD closed cab.

Here is the build thread from the chassie. I think he plans on running 15" rims but that might have changed. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...project+trazer

Yes it is the comp. motor as that is were the flash of light came from. You can look into it and see a few of the winding leads shorted together for what ever reason. It spun free and so did the pump. I have to wait untill Monday to call.

Re: LFD's Project Traizer 2WD closed cab.

Well the quarters are finished except for the welds around the tailgate, once it is mounted and checked then I will weld that section. I also made up small pieces to conect the newe cab to the blazer B posts in side. This section was cut large so the quarters could slide in to place and the roof section could drop down. So now that all that is done it was time to close up the void. I also finished the inner bed wall to cab conection and it is ready for a quick pass of seam sealer then bed linner will give it all a real clean look. Heading back out to start to finish up the rockers and a few misc welds on the cab. Then later this week I will work on the door bottom patches, seat mounts and it should be ready to set her back on the frame

Re: LFD's Project Traizer 2WD closed cab.

So you're using SWB bedsides cut down? I see that you trimmed the front- does the rear end up having to be sectioned, or do they line up? I always assumed the Blazer and short fleet bedsides were different dimensions behind the wheel arch.

Edit- nevermind- just went and measured. Beauty of having one of each! This is good to know- funny how your eye will play tricks on you...
