Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)

Well i got the guts, held my breath and went for it.

Got all the bed routered last night was easy, but took time because i measured like 1000 times .

If you stuff wood up you can just cut it weld a new one in and smooth it.

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)

I really like what you've done in this build, great workmanship. do you have any pics showing how the bed mounts with the 1x1" framework you made for the raised bed? did you weld or bolt the lower frame to the bed sides?

Hey, FAT56, from one aussie to another, thats gonna be one sweet ride. You may have to explain about engieers reports to these american boys though, don't think they have to do any of that.

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)

Thanks Heaps fellas..

Engieers reports are horrible, to get a modified car or truck registered here in Aus you have to have a qualified engineer to look over everything that is modified. welding, brakes, chassis structure, lights, brake test at a race track Everything. Then he will wright a report up to 10 pages long explaining what has been done to the truck and yes it is safe to be on the road. And they ARE TUFF, it has to be perfect to pass and they are NOT cheap at all.

anyway to the good stuff.

Mocked up some of the parts on my Mockup motor just to get some inspiration.

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)

Gotta love the US wild west, as long as the VIN matches the title mine is always a 59 Pickup. Regardless of engine it is exempt from emission tests. I would only need an inspection if I modified the frame where the VIN number is and in that case could use the second one on the frame under the cab.

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)

So i have been waiting since i bought the truck to see the chassis number once i took the cab off. I was told and it was sold to me as a 56 but by the looks of the chassis number its a 55. (can i change my user name now) haha

If anyone can help me identify it that would be great

Chassis number is 2550024365.

Haha no worries at home, enter workshop at own risk.

I wish i lived in america with what i have seen you can get anything on the road.

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)

Got some etch primer on the frame last night going to prime and block it down over the weekend and hopfully shoot the colour tuesday. Then the fun starts, i can put things back together for the last time.

I also found out what year my clip was, from the stampings on the upper and lower arms i had blasted, its a 76.

and this is what i ended up doing to the clip. put a sleave inside and drilled holes and welded it all up.
