Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

once you get all the primer stages done, it goes pretty fast. the bc/cc stuff flashes pretty quick. i've been using wanda and axis products with good results. unless i'm looking for razor sharp lines, i generally just paint over the epoxy.

Thanks! I plan on using Wanda for my base and southern polyurethane for the clear.

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

Last week was a total write off as far as getting stuff done. Had something going on every day after work, worked the weekend, and had stuff going on after work on the weekend anyway... So, my goal at this point is to finish up the filler and blocking this week, spray more primer this weekend, block the primer next week, and do paint and clear as soon after that as possible. Still thinking /hoping first or second weekend in October it will be done.

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

Here is a little of my filler blocking progress. My goal for today is to block the rest of what I have on there and then go back around with more filler to hit the spots that are still low.

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

So Wednesday I got the rest of my first round of filler blocked. Yesterday I did my second round of filler and started blocking it. I can see I might still have some minor imperfections but I think I will take care of that with glazing putty. Today after work I plan on doing a bunch more blocking. Tomorrow morning I'll likely continue blocking... My arms are already sore! I'll be working on it all day Sunday and hope to have another round of primer on it by the end of Sunday. Then I'll be blocking that next week as quick as possible in preparation for MORE PRIMER followed by MORE BLOCKING. Still shooting for paint and clear the first weekend of October but the likelihood is that it will be the second weekend. It's getting there tho!

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

Ok second round of epoxy is in the bag! Pretty much a repeat of last time. Mostly awesome with a couple runs. No big. Everything that's not perfect now will be perfected with the feather fill and glazing putty. Body work seems to look pretty good which is nice. The filler really seems to soak up the primer!

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

Doesn't look to impressive as just a paint splotch but it's going to look pretty nice. It's the original #71 red metallic. Kinda like a mix of red and burgundy. I also picked up a quart of white for the two tone stripe. Getting excited now! Unless something awful happens, I should have paint and clear on it next weekend!

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

Hopefully it turns out that nice! But I assure you, this truck will get many miles and haul loads of everything you can imagine including yard debris, quads, and everything in between. It will be taken camping and probably ran through a little brush from time to time. I just want it to look nice while I'm doing all that stuff!

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

sanding, sanding, sanding - gotta love it! Looking good so far. From what I understand, you should only use the glazing putty for scratches or pin holes but not so much for dings or low spots. I tried to stick to that rule, but used it also for a couple of extremely shallow and small low spots.

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

Yep. That's the plan. I can see that I will have several pin holes and such in the filler that the putty will be perfect for. Thanks!

Fantastic work! I wish I had half the motivation you do! I swapped beds on my truck something like a month ago, and I still haven't even bolted it down, lol.

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

Long story. Basically I replaced one of the bed sides and both of them will be going away in a year or so when I switch to a suburban gas tank.
