speaker Kick panel....bummer

Update on cutting out behind the kick pannel.

Not Possible. I would be cutting into the lower piller not the open area of kick pannel.
I checked the my "custom auto sound" kick pannel's for depth and I only have 2 " MAX. I already painted mine grey to match my interior......

I hope that you dont really believe that comsumer elctronic manufacturers are making their products bigger than they need to be for "marketing" reasons.
If you do believe that then i hate to say it but you are grossly out of touch with the market place because i have never heard anyone say " WOW, thats a huge cell phone, where did you get that monster? I gotta have one of those because my smaller phone fits too well in my pocket, i would rather have one that has to have its own suitcase that i have to drag around." :p

On the subject of magnets on the back of speakers, if any of you have an "XS Cargo" store near you, you should go and see this sucker in person:

This speaker is HUGE!!! I'd swear it weighs about 60lbs! Now wether it can handle 10,000w, or even sounds any good, I don't know, but it sure is something to just sit and look at!

Guys, I feel your pain! I work for a speaker manufacturer, Polk Audio. And for me, the abs plastic panels with the 6.5" coaxials was not an option (Especially since I know that there is a better option!). Here is what I was able to come up with. I am attaching a couple of pics to maybe give you a better idea. I had one of my dealers fabricate a set of kicks to fit our 6.75" component set. Phil started out by using the Rod Doors kickpanels as templates for the back of the new kicks. The new back was cut out of 1/4" luan then mdf speaker rings were placed using some back-strap material. Once the desired angles were done for best imaging, Phil stretched a fleece material over the front side and secured to the back of the panel with stapels. He made another luan piece which was screwed over the front to make some design and not make them look so plain. He then covered them with fiberglass resin, sanded smooth, glassed again, smoothed again, and then wrapped with the same soft vinyl that covers the rest of the interior panels.

That looks REAL GOOD but ive heard bad things about mounting the tweeter below the woofer as far as sound imaging, but then again if you work for polk then you should probably know better than i.

That is sharp. Did you cover your fresh air vent? How do they look on the other side? It looks like you have a panel below your dash too - is that just th help hide the heater?

So that's you truck I've been drooling over on Roddoors website for the last while subtle71. Does it sound as good as it looks? Also, what do you run for a sub with that setup? And did you cover up the fresh air vents and what did you do about the E brake?

All you guys talking about the dimmer switch....how hard would it be to relocate the dimmer switch to the turn signal stalk like in later models? I know teh later models have the big turn signal indicator, but didn't some of the late 80's fullsize cars with no cruise control have standard turn signal handles (like what we've got now) with the dimmer switch ont he base of that?

You could move the dimmer switch to the right a few inches as easy as anything. It's just 2 screws.

Thanks for the kind words! I am pleased with the performance. I did block off my fresh air vents with two layers of Dynamat Extreme. As for the driver's side, see the attached pic. My sub bass is managed by four 8" subs. They are each a dual four ohm voice coil. A four channel true 500 watt amplifier powers them. Since I no longer have windshield wipers, I modified the knob to be the remote sub gain level controller! (Stealth) I have attached an older photo. The amps have been changed out to our Polk/Momo amplifiers since this pic.

As for the E brake, I have a beautiful matching Lokar brushed aluminum one still in the box with cables that needs a new home. Make an offer!

Someone mentioned in another reply about the tweeter placement... I chose this mount in this particular vehicle because it gave me the best imaging and the least defraction from the dash and other surfaces. I then made a underdash cover panel padded it with 1/2" foam and wrapped it with matching vinyl.

Nice set up.....but that will not work with new style seats...at least not with what I've got going. I have fabbed a dimmer re-location metal piece. It is a small piece of metal that has 4 screw holes in it, two go into the factory dimmer holes the the dimmer itself bolts up to the other 2 holes moving it 3" to the passenger side.

That looks awesome man! Do you run the original seat? I was thinking of doing the same thing with either 4 8's or 2 10's. How deep are those little polk 8's, and how much airspace is in that box. It gives me hope for the future with mine. Also, What did you use to cover all the bare tin in the cab like behind the seats and headliner and such. Custom made panels or is there a kit available?
