Re: My new project 86 Silverado
More than enough lol! Supposedly from what a friends dad of mine told me is that back when our trucks were built they had a heavy duty rear end, with 8 leafs on each I think the typical leafs on a truck of our generation was 10 or 12 total but as you can tell there's 16 lol on the 12 bolt

Re: My new project 86 Silverado
At least y'all's is somewhat predictable in Texas it can be 80 1 day and next day it be 60 and pouring down rain, it's safe to say Texas has it's own Eco system
Looking forward to the progress when you get it, we all have to deal with the elements one way or another. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: My new project 86 Silverado
I am glad you said that about the tie rods. I need to go ahead and put all my new steering stuff on. Did you end up getting any drop springs or are you cutting yours down?

It's going to look awesome with whatever you decide to do! maybe weld some of the holes up, and leave a few to put some lights or guages in maybe?

Re: My new project 86 Silverado
ordered another gallon of epoxy primer, and a gallon of 2K primer
36 grit and 40 grit D/A sanding disks, lot's of sanding to do to get back to bare metal. Also went to H/F and got an air drill, and 4 inch grinder for wire brushes and grinding disks for the "patina" on the hood of the cab. update pics soon...

Re: My new project 86 Silverado
OK... finally got my budget worked out for my project.
Paint etc. already decided ,and have supplies. Front drop, already decided and have hardware. 1st question: looking for another engine solution. at first I was looking at Chevy 327 options, which I really like even though people say i'm crazy for wanting one. If I go with a 327 I want to be able to spin it real high if I want. For the engine... budget says I can go three different routes... a short, or long block and add ons to complete the engine, or... a turn-key engine. For a small block Chevy(cubic inches doesn't matter now), I would like input from you guys on which route could be the best bang for the buck with a budget of 4000.00+? Transmission will be TH400, rear gear 3.08. 2nd question: Since I am only doing static drop on my truck with 2.5" drop spindles etc. up front. And I want to lower it in the rear and have a little rake to it. What would be the best suspension option for getting rid of the leaf spring setup in the rear, and a budget of 2000.00 or less. Anyone used one of these? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/na...8/media/images As always, let me know what info you need to help me figure some stuff out. Kind regards, naphtali

Re: My new project 86 Silverado
I've got one of those serpentine kits but its still in the box. It's the same thing they're putting on late-model cars and trucks in a kit to retrofit on a old small block - not much to it really. If you wanted to get all that out the junkyard and dress it up you could and essentially have the same thing. That might be an option if you want to save some $$$ to put on the long-block.
To rev, 327 or 377, but what happened to the 455? |

Re: My new project 86 Silverado
I still have the 455 I'm thinking about putting that with my 67.
yeah I figured a kit that had it all together in one package (part #12497697 is with PS/ALT and no A/C) would be cool to put on a SBC instead of one of those super expensive March kits. Quote:

I need to re-sand the fenders for the surface rust so I can epoxy prime them, and it's too damp out for either one.
